I have as 2000 w-reg, gilera coguar 125 (don't start!) i love the bike, VERY comfortable, and runs well - bug what a slug! i really need to speed this thing up! It'll do about 60-65 at a real push but takes ages to get there. Is there anything i can do?

Before anyone says "do ya test" das test booked, test on 22nd june '04.

Is it a 4 stroke? If it is then theres bugger all you can do.

TBH its probably just worth waiting for your full license and a bigger bike anyway.

It's a 4 stroke.

Because of this there is nothing you can do to derestrict it, as it is already in full power mode. You could spend a lot of money on boaring it out and all sorts, but it's not worth it.

Is that the one where you take the piston out and try and squeeze a piglet in?

Nearly - the actual process involves a very small wild boar. It can sometimes be a bitch to get in, but with perseverance, it can be done.

doh!
oh well, it's not worth messing too much with it, as just for 6 weeks (hopefully!!!!!!), sounds to much hassle.
so when people say restricted, does that mean 50cc's an' 33bhp bikes rather than 125's?

No - a 2 stroke 125 makes a lot more power than a 4 stroke 125, for various reasons.

Because of this, most 2 stroke 125's are restricted as standard to meet the learner law requirements. When derestricted a good one can hit about 28 bhp, a full power 4 stroke will struggle to get over 15 bhp.

2 strokes basically go through 2 "cycles" the the time a 4 stroke takes to do 1 "cycle" a cycle being letting the fuel in, igniting it and letting the exhaust gases out.
as such they go double the speed (the engine not necicaraly the bike) with the same amount of fuel, however for the same reason they are worked very hard and don't survive the same number of miles a 4 stroke would..

As for tuning, save your money and spend it on gear or your new bike, otherwise you might find it difficult selling your bike if it isn't road legal (which is the only way to improve performance, and you wouldn't notice the tiny difference anyway).

Good luck with the test, just do what your instructor says and keep relaxed Thumbs Up
