I've just been fiddling with my CBR's rear end (yes it sounds gay when you read it Rolling Eyes ) and wanted to know whether or not it's a legal requirement to keep the rear reflector on (the red one that sits on the black plastic below the plate).

Is it also required for the MOT? thanks.

depends where you go, my first mot on the nsr failed for it and i had to fit one so i nicked one off my old push bike and blue tacked it on, then pulled it off again outside the mot place, but that was a stratstone main dealer type thing.

for its last mot i took it to a back street type garage and they never mentioned it.....along with 2 screws in the rear that i covered in marker and some front pads that were near the metal Laughing

Yes it is a fail item, however the reflector isn't codified apart from it must be red and it must be aparent.

The one on the back of Bounce is a little round blob the size of my thumb print stuck in the corner of the numberplate

It is a requirement but some light lenses have a built in reflector.

Most motorcycdle MOT stations will have a sheet of sticky-backed reflectors and will stick one on for you if it is missing.

If someone failed a bike of mine on no rear reflector I would never go back there for anything else (other than five minutes later for the retest with a random bit of red reflector I picked off the road at a busy junction gaffa taped to it.).
