Who can claim to have seen or even owned a rare bike? I'll kick off for starters (and I'll post the pic as soon as poss) -

seen - Kawasaki CS250 - A roadster with the 4s l/c motor from the KLR250 - until recently only ever seen pictures in magazines. nice looking wee thing.

ok - the memory is playing tricks on me - it looks like it's 'BR250' :-

I was riding alongside a Benelli Tornado on Mayday run, tho I spose that's not so special seeing as Hippy's got one anyway, also saw some big inline 6 cylinder at Boxhill once.

Ditto.

I have only seen one on the roads apart from mine, and one parked somewhere. I felt nice to ride something a bit different even if getting hold of parts was a nightmare.

I got to ride my mate's dad's 1975 Kawasaki Z1000. Don't know how rare they are but he had to get it imported from Arizona. Even came with free sand under the seat.

Other than that. I've not seen anything special on my travels so far.

I've never met another MT50 on the road before. Closest thing I've seen to it is an MTX125 that knocks about round here.

Ooh I like 'bike-spotting'
(Any of the more mature members remember those 'i-spy' books you could get for spotting various things?)

I've spotted lately:

Bimota Tesi
Ducati MH900
Bimota SB7 (lives round the corner from me)
and a Benelli Tornado

Yes! I have about 50 of them, they were brilliant books to keep yourself entertained in the back of the car.

/ me goes to find books.

My VFR400 NC21 was pretty damn rare. I've seen loads of NC30's and loads of NC24's but never another NC21! Smile

Hi

Difficult to say. I have seen a few Bimota V Dues around. The exhausts are different between the fuel injected and the carbed bikes.

Think there were around 800 Gilera CX125s made so they are not that rare. There were 225ish of my YB10 made so even they are not that rare.

All the best

Keith

How about Yamaha TW125s? I've seen two of those ever, and one was my brothers. Even if some delinquint scum decided to nick it and trash it in the park.. Evil or Very Mad

I guess there aren't very many Hongdou HD125s about. Dunno if that's really such a good thing however.. Smile Got to wait for 7-10 days from Monday for the gits to deliver it now though Sad...

If you want really rare, find a Honda NR750.. Oval pistons, 8 valves per cylinder, two conrods and two sparks to each piston. Sheer Honda madness.

My old neighbour owned an old bsa bantum and a Triumph Bonneville (i think, it was 1950's i remember him telling me), i know they're both old and i'm sure just the number plate of the triumph was worth in excess of a few thousand pounds.

I currently own a chunlan starway cl50-QT, bet none of you have seen one of those! Also bet that even fewer of you have been overtaken by one Razz

we had some oldies at the shop, couple nortons, bsas and triumphs ranges from early 60s to mid70s. sales manager collected them. weirdest thing was an indian, i think , that had the clutch and gas on the right:)

gts1000, only ever seen one at the shop even though there were more then a few produced, this one had over 200 thousand miles on it. id say thats pretty rare for an fzr1000 motor:)

A friend of mine years ago, who was a huge bike nut, told me that one of the guys in the village we live in had a Vincent Black Shadow in his garage. Apparantly he had a two or three rare bikes. I never got to look in his garage to find out though.

So, I've never actually seen anything that rare I guess.

Now cars... that's a different matter! Wink

Seen a few GTS1000 around, but they are not common. I have the workshop manuals for them on the shelf above this PC!

The FZR1000 engine is very tough. Will easily do 90000 miles, and the first thing that goes is the gearbox (unless you overtighten the chain when the bearing behind the front sprocket fails), and with a touring bike the gearbox should have an easy life.

I have seriously toyed with buying a GTS1000, but don't do enough long journies to justify a large tourer.

All the best

Keith
