Police giving out free hi-viz vests

Nice of them to think of our safety, nicer still if they didn't delay us when we are in a hurry to get to work, even better if they dont use it as an excuse to give the bike a once over and give us a ticket for something to help pay for the vests, or am I just being too cynical.

Most car drivers dont realise its perfectly legal to filter as long as its safe to do so. Perhaps if this fact was made more widely known, more cars would allow us to safely proceed at lights etc. (but im not holding my breath for that )

Given that all road users should be thoroughly familiar with the Highway Code and keep upto date as it changes I believe the onus is on them.

If people are using the road and don't know what is/isn't acceptable then perhaps they should have their licence revoked and do us all a favour.

A better slogan for the hi-vis vest would be ... 'OPEN YOUR FRIGGIN EYES'!!

Yet again they blame the biker for all the accidents, whereas the vast majority are caused by cars and the nuggets driving them. Why aren't the cars being stopped and the drivers advised about the use of eyes, indicators and maybe at a push the use of the thing in their head called a brain.

And as for being stopped to give me a hi-vis vest ... I'd tell them where to stick it

I'd gladly accept a free vest! I wear my old construction vest everytime I'm out riding my Townie, or my mountain bike. I'll be getting a blinkie vest soon, and then my boys can use the other vest.

I like to do everything I can to protect myself, and hopefully not become another statistic!

I wear a hi-vis when commuting on the basis --if they didnt see me the b4st4rds weren't looking......its got velcro and stays shut at 70-80. but i dont filter at that rate ..
