hey Thumbs Up

My contract is coming to an end on my N95 8GB and was thinking about getting one of these.

Any bad things about it or should look out for.
Much appreciated

What's the app to change text tones? (I don't need it, I SSH them over manually, just interested).

Oh, I love my iPhone, even if it does have all the problems listed above!

To be honest, the camera is fine. If I wanted decent pics I'd use a proper camera but for the odd happy snap it's not exactly poor quality!

truslack wrote:
Crap Bluetooth

Will be an update at some point. There is already an app about to be released that will allow bluetooth file transfer. The hardware is up to it but there just hasn't been a software update yet!

truslack wrote:

Dunno what that is so can't comment!

truslack wrote:

Not really. Depends on your point of view. Yes you can't get a heavily subsidised one but for what you get it's not an expensive piece of kit really. I'd never go back to an ordinary phone now!!

truslack wrote:

How very 1999. Why MMS when email is so much better!

truslack wrote:

Answered already!

truslack wrote:

So YOU want to be the saddo with a funny ring tone on the train! LOL, what's wrong with a discreet beep and a buzz or a loud ring if you are outside!

truslack wrote:

There are issues with some apps just randomly closing but it does get better with each update. No other phone has such easily updatable firmware!

truslack wrote:

Does any other phone? Im sure someone will release an app if there's enough demand!

Overall, as you can probably tell I love my iPhone. Yes it's not a perfect phone by any means, but neither are any other phones. Most of the stuff people moan about aren't exactly things you use anyway, and there are always workarounds for most things, copy and paste etc etc. Initially I wasn't really interested in an iPhone, but now having had once for a while it has become like a completely independent gadget as it does so many other things so well, the fact it is a phone as well is a bonus!! - If I were to change to another phone I would miss the things the iPhone does so well that others don't even come close to.. iPod etc etc., and don't even get me started on how nice the user interface is to use! Even the touch keyboard is really easy to use once you get used to it! Works so much better than any other touch screen phone!

Anyway that's my 2p worth!

An app about to be released to enable bluetooth file transfer? Are you on about the Bluesn0w project? Apple missed a lot of functions out of the bluetooth stack, so an app like that would never make it into the appstore.

Most of the stuff I mentioned can be remedied by jailbreaking the phone - I don't think I could go back to using a locked phone now.

It's still way under par when most manufacturers are now looking beyond 5mp, the camera quality on the N95 is brilliant and that was out before the iphone.

Because most people still don't access their email on the move, I still use MMS both sending and receiving quite often.

The iPhone is all about the Interface and Apps store with a solid web browser on the side. If thats what your after then you can't go wrong, it falls flat as a feature phone though, and as a pure music phone I'd still tend to look elsewhere due to the bluetooth and DRM limitations.

I've had my E90 for 2 years now and I've still not been tempted to upgrade it by anything, the N97 looks slick but thats almost a year away and I don't doubt that it'll be a complete buggy joke for at least a couple of months after it's release.

Oh and friends don't let friends buy windows mobile Wink

I replaced my E90 with a WM Touch HD and the only thing I miss from the E90 is the hardware keyboard, apart from that I'm more than happy with it.

A mate of mine has an iPhone and for some reason I cant really explain I dont like it. I dont find the keyboard easy and constantly hit the wrong letters but that may be because I'm used to the keyboard on the HD.

A good reason to buy an Email capable phone then Wink I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that say their black and white TV is fine! Unfortunately you have to move on with technology and not get stuck in the past! ROFL.

Really? I thought it was all about the features and not so much the phone. In fact I would go as far to say as it has MORE features than any other phone just not necessarily the ones the other phones have!!

Seb wrote:

Really? I think it's the best phone for music. I use iTunes and it's the perfect partner. I don't think there is any doubt that the iPod interface is the best portable music interface. DRM? What problems does that cause?? No iTunes music has DRM anymore and anything you download wont, and its not exactly hard to remove it if you do have tracks with DRM on! The iPhone plays any music.. if you get it into itunes it will sync to the iPhone!?

Bluetooth? Why should that be a problem? If you really want bluetooth headphones or to stream to bluetooth speakers then there is a tiny little adaptor that fits in the bottom to give you this.

I don't think either of those things are deal breakers on not getting in iPhone!

At the end of the day it's down to personal preference. If people want an iPhone get one, if they don't, don't get one but there are no real disadvantages of getting an iphone over any other phone. They all have their faults but PERSONALLY I think the iPhone is a much better product than any other phone on the market today.

Not really, I have an MDA Vario III, and before that a Vario II...(In HTC terms thats the TyTN 1 and 2...I think)

...and I STILL dont access my email on the move.

I have it linked up...but I just dont. No idea why. Just prefer reading my emails on a proper comp. Dunno why.

I have an email capable phone but I don't use it to email people, at best I check them if I'm expecting something.

If I want to MMS a pic to someone then I'll do it, if I want them to see it in their email then I'll wait until I get home, just because you can use email on the move doesn't mean everyone else can.

In fact, what you've essentially done is smashed your vhs player, gone out and bought a brand new state of the art dvd player and then got home to find you own 654 videos that you quite like.

Probably because your phone doesn't do emails as well as the iPhone so you will always go for the easy option!

Shaun wrote:

Again, same as above. As yet not all phones are as good the iPhone for email so I can see why you don't like using email. But it really is much better than MMS when you have the right equipment Wink

But as you say, if MMS is one of your top priorities of a phone then you wouldn't choose an iPhone, but if it's not high on your list then it's not an issue! To use your analogy if you only have 2 VHS's at home, dump your VHS deck (after copying your beloved VHS to DVD) then move on into the 21st century! If all your friends are stuck in the past and you want to watch their dodgy porn VHS then you have no choice but to stick with your 'beloved' old VHS deck! Wink

One thing that annoys me about the iPhone is the simple issues that could easily be solved.

For instance, only attaching one picture to an email - why? Cut & paste?

On the other hand, the usability, web and email integration has been a revelation to me. Having a brilliant little web browser and email that works like text messaging is fantastic. The browser lacks flash support which only rarely can cause problems but would be nice to have (rumoured to be on its way, possibly in the new iPhone in the summer).

If you're willing to jailbreak then most of the issues people have noted can be overcome.

The keyboard takes a small amount of getting used to but now I'm pretty accurate. It doesn't matter really as the automatic spelling correction is spot on and I wish more common on other things.

Having an iPod bundled in is just the cherry on the cake.

I can say there is no other phone I'd choose over it at the moment and wouldn't be able to go back to my old phone.

Don't see why you're comparing email to MMS. You use them for completely different things.

But that's it, MMS was only developed because it wasn't easy to send emails via a phone, now the iPhone has made email work so well on a mobile device that it improves over what MMS can offer!

You only really need one way to communicate with people and email covers it all, why bother with text or mms, although I do still send a lot of texts because as was mentioned earlier, not everyone can get email on their phone, YET! But talking of SMS, the iPhone handles those better than any other phone also, the whole way it looks like chat is just great!

See where you're coming from. Don't see why everyone rates the iphone quite so highley if it misses a few basic features though. Not sure how far a nice interface could blag it for me. Thinking

I thought that. Then I got an iPod Touch and I haven't looked back since and am waiting on the next gen iPhone to come out so I can grab that.
