With my local Halfords being continually out of stock and my local motor factors' opening hours not suiting I was wondering where you buy your oil?

I really, really want to avoid going to my local bike dealer as I'd rather shove wasps up my bum than give them money the miserable sods.

I'm after some semi/fully synth stuff at a reasonable price.

I've been using Hein Gericke (made by Motul) 10w/40 semi-synthetic for a year or so now.

It's not a bad oil it's JASO MA and API SG rated and usually costs £13.99/4L though they have it on offer at £12.71/4L at the moment (not that my local branch have stock).

And if you take your 2008 HG catalogue in they'll give you a £5 gift voucher, so you could get it for £7.71!

For 2-stroke oil i generally buy it at the petrol station whilst filling up.

Yea, something like. Best deal I've seen recently for bike semi synth.
Looked ok, got it in my ZX9, but only using it for commuting at the moment.

I'd imagine that for something like an xr/xt it's probably better to just use cheapo oil and change more regularly - don't single 4t's tend to burn quite a bit anyway or is that just on shitely maintained bikes ? - if i was doing mileage on it (bandit or similar) then i'd wack castrol something in it and change ever 5k (i lie... i'm lazy - 10k was alright in mine before she got forced to goto hell Smile)).

They don't have to burn oil, however high performance bikes often have a very low oil capacity, meaning they need to be changed regularly as a small contamination will have a higher impact.
Some people stick extra oil radiators on to Husabergs and KTM EXCs etc.

No, though whether it matters that much if it's a stock slowish one is another matter.
