They're slightly bigger than a normal horn, but lovely and loud.

No decibel limit on the MoT, reasons for MOT failure;

1. A horn control missing.
2. A horn control. a. faulty or not readily accessible. b. not functioning.
3a. a horn which operates but is not loud enough to be heard by another road user.
b. a motor bicycle fitted with a gong, bell. siren or horn which emits two or more alternating tones
c. In the case of a motor bicycle first used on or after 1 August 1973 a sound which is: (i) not continuous or uniform (ii) strident i.e. harsh or grating.

I got the horn while on VWPs

I know you said you've just gone and got one off flea bay and that you didn't want an air horn....

BUT;

I can highly recommend the Stebel Nautilus

They're very compact and very loud, I've installed them in several of my classic cars in the past and they've worked brilliantly. I know a lot of BMW riders that have fitted them, scares the hell out of other road users Twisted Evil

Only downside is if you have a naked bike as they need to be mounted as close to the vertical as possible and also could do with being protected from the elements by a fairing.

Worth a look though, good price for the decibels and always gets people looking around wondering where the hell the truck is (ear plugs essential).

PS if you do fit one then DO NOT test it whilst inside a garage, it hurts! Sick

That one, no other comes even close. Your just wasting money buying anything else. I put one on every vehicle I own.

lol, granted they are a lot bigger than the standard little tea bag sized ones but are still remarkably compact for such a loud air horn.

There's usually some void behind the fairing that it can be squeezed into, if you do a Google search for your bike I'm sure you'll find someone that's fitted one before.

They are well worth it though, no one can possible say they didn't hear you when you 'beeped' them Twisted Evil

+1 for the Stebel Nautilus

The power draw is too high for you to run it direct from the original horn wiring, thats why you need the relay.
But I would ditch the stock relay that comes with it and replace it, as the quality is a little suspect

Btw, you can with a little effort split the stebel horn from its compressor and mount em seperately, so you can stick it on your bike should space be tight. A guy on the Triumph sprint forum split a stebel and posted an install video and pics HERE

+1 again. I mounted mine inside the fairing on the left hand side. I made a little bracket and it bolted on lovely.

Careful splitting the horn, it adds a delay from pressing the button to hearing the noise; the longer the hose, the bigger the delay.

Nautilus is fine.. but can be a right palaver to fit. even on my GS was far too much like hard work.

oh yes.. and its bloody heavy.

I went for the 'Magnum' same make - and not quite as loud as the Nautilus.. but still 3 times louder than most stock horns.

best thing about it is its a straight swap. direct replacement. no messing with the electrics - single bolt. 2 minute job to fit.

and a bargain.. about £12 (or so) from Halfrauds.

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

Could do it like this CLICKY if you don't have enough room but no reason why not.

Make sure you go for the 'Compact' Nautilus as the other one is a big lump and that's when people have trouble fitting them.

Mine has not worked for months, got MOT coming up in April, i will probably see if a shop has a an old spare lying around, i never use it much anyway when they do work, its too reliant on someone else doing something, i prefer revving the tits off the bike or evasive action in lieu of a horn blast
