Hi. My car has a cracked windscreen is there anyway I can repair it i know you can repair small cracks by injecting this chemical resin stuff but want about proper cracks? The crack is about 6inch long. I think its a new windscreen job but I'm no expert.

Yep sounds like a new screen. Cracks tend to grow with extreme cold etc and it's usually small chips that can be filled.

1st thing to check is if your insurance covers it. Most fully comp will cover screens for free repairs or replacement for £50 or so. They will send you to their preferred company(Autoglass etc) or will arrange for them to come to you.

If not covered then phone Autoglass for a quote and if it's a lot, get down the scrappy!

New screen.

You can resin it so that it doesn't spread any further in the interim though.

Windscreen repairs are sometimes free and without excess under comprehensive insurance policies

The car is not insured at the moment. I only got it last night and not planning to insure it just yet as i'm off the roads. I don't want the crtack spreading any further then it already has guess all i can do is ask the glass people and see what they say.

The crack is unlikely to get any bigger if the car doesnt move.

I had two stonechips in the windscreen of my mondeo last year. They were about 6" apart i think. Drining to work one really cold february morning and i heard funny noise and the screen cracked as i watched. The crack was about 8" wide and went from chip to chip with a bit of growth at each end. When i came out of work that evening the crack grew to about 12" within a hundred yards or so of setting off. By the time i got home it was about 2ft long!
I got mine replaced on the insurance. I had to pay £50.

I had a tiny stone chip in my windscreen. Lazy really, I could of repaired it at work, myself, For nothing.

But I left it.

It now spans from one side of the screen to the other. Literally. You cant see it when driving though, Its right down by the wipers.

Should really get it sorted.

I had a couple of chips. They turned into a couple of big cracks the second I used the heated windscreen on it. Doh!

Still, insurance sorted it.
