I was hoping the video would have been longer considering the spread that they put in the newspaper, but it's still interesting to watch none the less.

That's the idea of it.

Do you not read MCN?

Or even know how ABS works?

yeh i do know exactly how it works thanks Wink

so i can be as stupid as i want with the brake, i mean really stupid snatch it full whack back the handle bar and the bike sorts it out? someone told me that there are limits to it...

would only have it on my bike if i could turn it off, and i would only have it on for town rideing incase someone pulls out on you and you panic, otherwise i would turn it off going for a ride or to do stoppies etc.

Yes, because the speed sensors will note that the wheel is not spinning, release the brake and then re apply it many times before you have blinked.

I like the idea and it will be awesome when the bike is new but i'd worry about problems when the bike is older. Perhaps it will turn out to be as reliable as it is on cars but i doubt it. Plus it doesn't have the main advantage that it has in cars, allowing you to steer around an obstacle while braking hard.

Interesting to see the point proved (well almost) that a good rider can stop just as efficiently on both bikes.

Looks like a good ABS system, esp no pulsing at the lever.
Wonder how good it is in wet turns. Can it be switched off like the BMWs?

i think the race rider ease off when non the abs bike (5:00mins ish) certainly doesn't sound as aggressive as the 1st non-abs run.

Apparently if the ABS stops working then the brakes are designed to work as normal brakes would, or so I read in BiKe magazine.

they do say the brake acts as normal, and has an electric pump that takes over when you snatch the lever, this would suggest the brake operates normally OR via the electronics, thus would failsafe to norm.

It does have limits, snatch the front brake and you're over the bars.

Why are MCN videos always shit quality? I would've expected something more professional from a major organisation like MCN.

Apparently its impossible to stoppie the bike.

Its not like normal abs that just senses a wheel locking, it actually takes over the brake calipers if it senses a panic break, so no connection at that point between the brake lever and brakes.

Sounds like witchcraft to me!

It'd still wash out on a corner or if you're not upright, it just stops the wheel locking, the rules of braking on 2 wheels still apply.

Depends how quick the ABS is. I've locked the front wheel whilst cranked over and as long as you release it instantly it's possible to regain traction... A lot will depend on the tyre too. In fairness I did stamp with my foot but I think it sorted itself out before I got my foot off the peg.

But being cranked over and braking with the front wheel is going to either stand it up or lean it over far too much. I can't imagine the ABS 'Judder' that it produces would be too much fun on a corner either.

Good idea i must say, i just don't think it'll make too much difference on a corner, kind of worrying people are going to think they are invincible whilst cornering and general riding.

A very biased test if you ask me, that video just showed in my eyes that people learnt to slow a bike down on their second go (what to expect), although I am sure the ABS had an effect.

The race rider was slowing down before he went through the cones!

However I am sure it will help prevent novice riders (like me) from panic braking.

It doesn't prevent panic braking, it's just a solution Wink
