I wish it wasn't the August bank holiday weekend, as I'm usually at Reading Festival then, but...
If I don't go to the festival, I might make this mine for the year:
https://www.dawntodusk.co.uk/
Now I was tempted to go 'iron butt' in the twelve hour race, but I see they have a 24 hour race too for this year!
However, I'm not sure I'd be able to get a suitable level of fitness in time to manage a moderately solid 24 hours... especially as they start at 7pm and I'm not great at sleeping in the day time!
A trailer for the DVD of last year's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijH4wnWApvA
Anyone want to come play?* You can enter in teams of up to six I believe, so can do it in a fairly relaxed manner, or as few people as you want for a bit better value .
While there's going to be some silly-fast people there, I'm sure there will be plenty of slower people to.
*Though as I say, can't gaurentee I'll do it yet due to timing. |

I would actually love to do that! That looks like stupid amounts of fun... Would want to go to Reading festival but not sure I will this year. And depending on money after my trip early August... ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Get yourself a cheap off-roader and get practising then .
As you can see from the vid, everything from competition enduro bikes to pretty barge-like HP2s seem to be entering.
If I was doing it would probably use the EXC, but could be tempted by the 690 if I was entering as part of a team. |

I'd do it. (if you don't mind obviously)
I'm guessing you use one bike? and everyone contributes towards it? ____________________ Harley XR1200 |

I'm pretty sure you can can do it on different bikes, but not 100%.
I'm still thinking about doing an 'iron butt' race (ie just me doing the full time), though probably not for the twenty four hours, but reckon the twelve would be a decent challenge to aim for!
So if you interested in doing it, might be better to see who else on here's interested . |

I'm going to Enduroland tomorrow... welcome to come along, but you'll have to get to Reading earlyish for a lift... give me a shout soonish if you're interested.
And, err, without lights? I think I'd be getting lights if I was doing the 24 hour event, some pretty damn bright ones at that . The 690 is DRZ400 kind of weight or a tad more. Not bad considering (with a can) it can make 60hp.
KX Gaz? And as there's big Beemer's doing ok there, I'm pretty sure it's all down to the rider! |

I bet it is pretty damn fast . My 200 is plenty fast enough for me - it probably has similar top end power to a 125 motocross bike from the same year. |

Have you done much in the way of enduro events?
I like the idea of 24 hours, but frankly don't think I've got the time/determination to get fit enough to reasonably do it 'iron butt' before then if doing it in a team would prefer to have the track time in the day time.
You're going to want a decent amount of lighting kit to do it at night, which is going to cost a bit in it's self.
The 24 hour challenge can be seen as similar to doing something like the Baja 1000 - this is a /serious/ challenge even in a small team.
Best of luck to you if you do do it, though . |

The terrain etc is fairly standard hare and hounds territory - 'normal' ones last for three to four hours and some are fine for relative 'newbs' (though being a confident greenlaner is a good start) - the one I'm entering next weekend, despite being a 4 hour 'endurance' event, has an hour lunch break half way through .
Starting with the enduroland practice track is definitely the way to go I reckon; it has a lot of varied terrain and you're less worried about getting laps in, so stopping for a break after each lap isn't a problem. |
