I sometimes hear tales of crime, from a friend of mine who is a policeman.

Apparently, for a while, a gang of thieves, have been preying on lorry drivers who are parked up to sleep. They beat up the driver, and steal the waggon and load. Obviously sometimes the load is worth very little, but sometimes its worth a lot.

Recently however, they picked on the wrong lorry driver. He apparently got a knife off one of them, and stabbed 3 of his 4 attackers.

They managed to escape, and were spotted on the motorway by people, as there was so much blood. Eventually they decided to take the one who was more seriously wounded to the hospital, but he ended up dieing of his wounds.

The Greek lorry driver, rang the police and described the events, and for his trouble he is now being charged with murder, but my policeman friend thinks that as he is a national hero, this probably wont stick.

I googled, and found a bit about it on bbc news site

Thats ridiculous being charged with murder acting in self defence....

But I think you are right in that he will get off much like the Pakistani news agent guy who got the knife off an attacker and stabbed him in the neck, robber ran off but bled to death.

There you go, classic case from this nazi toilet of a country. Man defends himself against four knife-weilding attackers and is arrested for 'murder'.

If ONE had a knife it's entirely reasonable to assume ALL of them had a knife, in the heat of the moment, and go at them all like billy-ho. That is entirely reasonable and justifiable.

"Oh, I'm so sorry officers, I should have backed off a bit as the four of them were coming at me, to see clearly if they all had knives. You know, let them get in nice and close, give them plenty of openings and lose my position, just to be sure..."

We need much more of this, personal initiative that is,every one taking care of there own issues before long government would shrink to a no thing as there would be nothing to "look after".

I see it coming do you? How far can they push it,Southampton for instance just had the green light to fluoridate water, only 72% of people said no according to the government and an independent phone vote records 92% saying no..yet its still passed on nothing more than the decision of a very gormless few sitting on a board..

Mass no payment of water bill until poison is removed?Oh lets hope so man has the right to live without being stabbed and clean drinking water people-i hope this guy gets what he fucking deserves!

Compensation...just think of it..the judge to pass sentence..what would he have done?Fucking died most likely..different story then aye. Mr. Green

Imagine the outcry from sections of the population if the lorry driver had been given a pat on the back and was sent on his way. Most people on here don't trust the police to issue FPNs honestly, so why would you trust them to deal with a killing?

I think it's only right and proper that the lorry driver's actions are examined by a jury of his peers, so that any claims of wrong-doing by the scrotes' families can be booted into touch where they belong.

Judging from the reaction here, any jury is going to need about 5 seconds to throw out the charges. I know that I'd cheerfully use a knife if I was woken up and attacked by 4 people - whether they were armed or not, that's the odds overwhelmingly against you.

Although I agree it would be thrown out by a jury, why should the lad defending himself even be charged with anything? Let alone it getting to court.

Are the others being charged for attempted robbery?

That is the only thing the police should now be concentrating on in my eyes.

Yes usually from people in their ivory towers , people like Polly Tonybee who keeps insisting she is working class yet gets paid about 200K from the guardian has a villa in Italy and lives in a safe area.

Their views would charge markedly if they lived somewhere nasty like gang banger cities (most inner city places).

I remember a joke my dad had with a cop after the tony martin fiasco, the cop joked that its only self defence if you are attacked first, he said so if he has a knife you have to be stabbed FIRST before you can hit him back?, what if hes got a shot gun aimed at your face?.

Or in high school when a cop came in to give us advice , which was effectively , run away. So I posed to him so somebody comes into your house with a knife he said jump out the window

The actions of the robbers after the stabbing should be taken into account in a big way,if instead of pissing about due to fear of being arrested they had got medical help straight away it could be a totally different head line.

Because if it didn't go up against a jury whats to say he isnt some kind of jack the ripper psycho type who armed with a knife attacked 4 pissed up blokes walking home from the pub.

Hi

He hasn't been charged with murder (if he had then the police would no longer be able to question him about it). He has been "arrested on suspicion of murder", which is very different and given that some people have died it is probably the right thing to do.

If he is charged with murder then I suspect it would be the best thing that could happen. Manslaughter he could reasonably be seen as guilty of but suspect most people would throw a murder charge out rapidly.

All the best

Keith

But they would go to court and talk about the case of self defence that has happened, not give him a load of tests to see if he is psychopathic so it doesn't really work.

Anyway, sounds like the right thing is happening as he aint been charged.

I always get confused by this sort of thing, as I thought 'murder' had to be premeditated, whereas this sounds more like 'manslaughter' being an accidental death as a result of self-defence.

If you're asleep in your cab and get sprung by 4 knife wielding hoodlums, how can you be under suspicion of 'murder'? Did he use his own knife that he had for 'just in case'? The Norfolk Farmer was charged with murder and found guilty, because he didn't let the kiddies leave and shot them with gun he had ready for such incidents, so not sure how the poor guy will get on tbh.

Not being able to defend yourself is a big concern that many people have these days - I really don't think asking them nicely to go away was going to do the trick, was it and why should he be an that situation in the first place? Unfortunately, there isn't much scope for plain old common sense in law. Rolling Eyes

Being asleep in the cab is like being in the bedroom at home, its the nest, its the place where naturally you are most likely to act wildly if caught off gaurd I think.

As in the Tony Martin case, once you cross the threshold of someone elses basic human rights then yours go too I reckon.

actually the police consider him a hero, but they still have to do their job and charge him with murder under our system

you will tend to find that many police are more in favour of self-defence and even unofficially in favour of vigilantism, than your average citizen

Thats probably actually good advice.

I value my life more than my possessions, as my possessions won't be much use to me if I'm dead.

There is a possibility that I might fancy my chances against an unarmed attacker, my size or smaller, but I'm not going to try my luck with someone who could quite easily kill me by accident or on purpose with their knife.

Respect to the Greek bloke, but I certainly dont fancy my chances in a knife fight, especially if I'm not the one with a knife.

Does anyone know where itchy lives, and we can do something nasty to him instead.

Besides, I said I would be leaving by a door, not a window.

The only way for you to get me to think you had entered my house, would be to enter it, and breaking and entering is a crime, so you might get prosecuted.

Admittedly, thats a bit unlikely.

I doubt murder charges will be pressed but presumably the greek guy could be done for possesion of a knife (or bladed object, however they word it) in the very least? Which is now supposedly a strait to jail offence...no doubt if it was a 15 year old chav that got caught with a knife it would be a slap on the wrists, however Mr.SelfDefending lorry driver shall be shafted by the long cock of the law to its full extent.

He was in his cab, there's no mention of what the knife was but seeing as he's a tramper from Greece so spends weeks in his truck he's very likely to have some knives for cooking which is perfectly legal. There's not actually been any mention of whether it was his knife or a knife he took off the attackers, i'd imagine it was his though.

I can see why they arrested him but nothing should come of it if it really was as he's described. The hijackers weren't coming from the pub as it was in Coleshill industrial estate at 6am, the car is well known for being involved in thefts there apparently. They also chose to drive to Sandwell hospital afterwards, that's nearly 30miles away, lots of other hospitals nearer so i'd imagine they wanted to get a good distance hoping that they wouldn't immediately be connected to the incident if it was reported by the trucker. Need to wait until more info comes out really but it seems pretty clear they got what they deserved so far.
