I regret buying it so much it would of been more wise to just start taking driving lessons... so I bought a moped and was told the speedometer cable needed replacing so thought fair enough and bought the bike I did notice the exhaust was rusted but it wasn't to great exhaust to have me worried... took it to the garage this morning he tells me I need new cables and drive for me speedo which will cost my £75 (that includes vat) then tells me your exhaust is blown and will cost £150 to get a new one at have it fixed and just to add a cherry on the top he throws in that I need a new battery too.

and that's just the start I also need to pay insurance £220 , tax £15, and still do my cbt which is looking to cost £125

all I will of spent over £600

im so pissed right now you wouldn't believe and to top it off I lost my job yay!

anyway that was just the rant part do you think instead of buying a whole new exhaust its possible to weld my current one? as the whole isnt that big

As said mate tell them where to stick it and source the parts elsewhere (ebay) most will be a doddle to fit so i would just put them on yourself..

Time to start learning about maintaining your own bike Scary i kno but you get used to it quickly and it can be a load of fun alot of the time, grab yourself a manual for the bike in question and it will give you step by step advice, also join a dedicated forum, chances are they will have done a write up on this particular job just like the R6 forum has done loads of write ups on the gearbox fix/transplant.

Don't be so quick to bend over and lube up - I got quoted £79 to replace the heated seat switch on my Alhambra. I bought 2 for £4.21 on eBay and fixed it myself. Shop around.

Speedo drives can be very expensive depending on what scooter he has.

Peugeot Speedfight speedo drives are about £60.

Bike mechanics are fairly easy. Just a giant mechano set. Everything will unscrew, unclip or unbolt.

Remember, every hour you spend on your bike, you are saving the extortionate labour charge.

If the exhaust hole isnt too big and you are skint maybe try some chemical metal in it, ive done it before and it held up!

If the battery starts the bike then leave it on. Pay someone a tenner to patch the hole in the exhaust. Speedo drive will fall out if you change the front wheel so that's an easy fix too, do the cable while it's off.

Spend the extra you would have thrown at the garage on buying a modest toolkit.

Agree that you should definitely learn how to do the jobs yourself. It's really not that difficult and you'll save a packet.
