Received a letter from Motorcycle Direct Saturday. They said that I have to pay an extra £12 as I don't have proof of my NCB that I declared on the statement. Not having received any notice re this i.e. no letter saying where is it? ( I had sent proof of my NCB via paperwork from the last insurance co. for the Bandit) I was a little confused. I rang them and discovered something I've never come across before...

When I called for insurance on the CB13 on the Monday (picking it up Saturday), the sale person said that they would start the insurance from that evening, I thought what ever. The problem was though this meant that I was insured on the Bandit with 1 company and also insured for the CB with another. I arranged for the bandit insurance to end on the Saturday when I had PXed it fro the CB. Apparently here in lies my mistake.

Apparently according to Mcycle Direct any NCB is null and void if I am insured on 2 bikes at once, the entitlement is also just considered on the CB...because the insurances overlapped they will not consider the bandit NCB, despite the fact that I was only asking for entitlement for July 2002-2003 This means that I have now lost my NCB for the last 22 months

is this right, has anyone else fallen foul of this. Apparently I should have been a Psychic and known exactly when I was going to arrive at the dealers 15 miles away and when exactly I was going to ride away on the CB so that the insurance policies didn't overlap.

Confused Confused Confused

If i were you mate, cancel the insurance policy you have with them (the new one). You have 10 days period where you can do this and not be charged a penny.

The CB has been insured for a complete year yeah?

Therefore, you can ask for proof of your NCB from the CB (just say you didn't receive it last time).

Then re-insure your bandit.

Mad Insurance companies are a shower of $hit! Always trying to get money out of people any which way they can, and as soon as it's their turn to pay out, they try their utmost best to get out of it. Making you wait ages to be paid out.

Or you could try talking to someone higher up that might not want their annoying behavior printed in Magazines etc. I'm sure they /can/ be flexible if they want to be.

Hi,

Not all your NCB from the bandit is not lost, but because you insured the CB with a different company before the bandits insurance was lapsed (rather than a change of bike) I can not be used on that policy.
Also NCB is in 12 months blocks so you have 1 years NCB. This will be valid for 2 or 3 years providing you have proof. If you wanted to use on the CB you would need to cancel the existing CB policy and take another one out, however this could easily cost more than 12 quid.

On the bright side if you get other bike you can use the NCB on that. Smile
What may have been better was to do was to change bike on your existing policy so in ran the extra 2 months to the end of the year so you would have at 2 years NCB. When you do this they will often be flexible about a small charge to insure both bikes at once. Otherwise you do have give the exact change over time even if you have to sit around awhile.

Bye

I asked for a quote from the existing insurers but it was over twice what I'm being charged for now...so it's still cheaper to pay the 12 notes....it's the fuggin principle of the thing that really narks me...the bit where you feel as though ya being shafted and there is nothing ya can do...

cunning plan, buy a suitably sized island, build a race track and flat roads and ban cages...no speed limits, oh and before ya chirp up, no the Isle of Man isn't very sunny so that's out

Actually for £12, I'd keep the other no claims. Maybe go and get a c50 or something insured with it... that way you've got another 'stream' of no claims still running. Which you can then use if something bad does happen.

Hi

The problem is that having cancelled your last policy you have effectively lost 10 months of no claims. Even if they had wanted double it would have been worth swapping the bike over for the last 2 months to get your full 2 years no claims.

All the best

Keith

Hi

I know that, and the first years no claims you have not lost. It is just that in a year you will now have 2 lots of 1 years no claims. However you were only a couple of months off having 2 years no claims.

All the best

Keith
