Had a lovely day on the bike, but i was in some heavy traffic and the bike just cut out when i was stationary. Pushed the starter and it started fine and idled fine again, I thought nothing of it until it happened again about 10/15 miles later in some more traffic.
Started back up fine once again. I notice no power loss at all and all the time it happens the bike is thoroughly warmed up. It only ever happens once i am completely stationary or at idle at lights etc. etc.
Its not everytime i stop, just every so often but obviously it shouldnt really happen. Idle is a steady 1k. What could this be? ____________________ 1980 Suzuki TS50 ~ 1984 Honda CB400N ~ 1992 Triumph Trident ~ 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200 |

Pure guessing but I think its probably electrical. When idling the battery isn't being charged and the generator is just about putting out enough power to keep it ticking over. Dunno.
I'd check the spark, and maybe the points, assuming thats whats fitted. ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

Yeah, i think it is electrical as its a very sudden cut out. It doesn't fade out.
It's got a CDI, not points. Checked the plugs and they are both a grey/stone kinda colour. Not sure if it makes a difference but the bike hasnt been used for nearly two weeks due to some fuel issues - now resolved Will check spark tomorrow.

Will do Ichy. Well, i did two trips of 50 miles and 40 miles today and it happened 5/6 times altogether i reckon. So hopefully something minor.

Permanant 1k rpm idle. Manual says 1200 but adjusting the 'idle knob' doesnt really have alot of effect on the idle

It's just had a full service (3/4 weeks ago) but i only did 10 miles on it before the i had it off the road re-sealing the fuel tank inside. Haven't checked the valves or balanced the carbs so thats something to look into. Fuel lines have just been replaced today and carbs only went back on this morning after a clean out. Also, the bike dont have vaccuum hoses, just the one fuel tube (tank to left carb)
