over 7000 miles 1 year no brake downs!

Today i have owned my honda CG125W 2000 for one year without a single brake down! in that year i have replaced:

* 3 head lights
* Brake pads back and front
* two tyers
* chain and sprockets
* 3 oil changes
* 1 spark plug
* 2 inline fuel filters
* front fork seals and oil
* brake cable

iv given it 1 big service just before the mot where i changed the pads,brake cable, fuel filter, chain and sprockets, fork seals and WD40'ed a few things.

All in all its been a VERY cheap bike (much cheaper then my NSR) and gotten me home every single day from work!

this is the 1st thing iv owned with a motor which has lasted 12 months inc my cars iv owned!

EVERYTHING iv driven/riden has let me down at some point!

Never had a problem with my old civic, ragged that every day, B16's also rule.

Don't forget to get the valve clearance done. I read somewhere that the cg needs this quite often.

Meh, maybe you just kill things.

I ride a Ducati FFS and I did 7k in 6 months with two trackdays and it never let me down.

Apart from the clutch slave cylinder. Which is common and now replaced with a bigger bestererer one.

I bought a 10 year old CG with 11 thou miles on it, never changed any seals or spark plugs etc.
Didn't even adjust the valves until it got to 20k.
It never broke down on my either!
Though in the end the clutch died .
Is it only 7k miles from brand new?
If so then christ your CG's needed a lot of stuff done to it!

noooooooooo my bike has 37,500 miles on the clock, which 7,500 of them i put on haha! The cluch is not a big job to change on the CG. a local bike shop said it would cost me £90 + parts for them to do it!

In the 4k I had my CG for I purchased:

A pirate flag
4 litres of oil (2 changes, with lots left over)
1 new rear tyre and inner tube (due to an irrepairable puncture)
A headlight bulb

It reguarly returned 95mpg

I also did some servicing, including valve clearences myself.

Bought the bike for £250, sold it for £330 with an expired MOT and Tax.

Awesome, my XR's got a lot to live up to.

C90?? hahaha i killed one of them when i was 14 in the woods! did take a few weeks tho!

Id trust a CG over a c90 any day but parts are a lot easier to get for the C90!

I read about this guy who is riding round the world on a c90! wonder how he is doing lol

If you stick to the service procedure and treated the bike reasonably well I can't understand why it wouldn't do 50,000 miles without any major problems.

I have also never understood why people (under normal circumstances) would change the oil before the service guide says so. The bike manufacture will cover their back with the oil changes by a long shot, and probably presume you are using cheap oil.

I tend to give the bike a service once I've bought a new one (brand new aside), as a matter of course. Allows me to understand the bike's history a little better and whether claimed servicing/changes have really been made.

Out of routine, I changed the oil every 2.5k on my CG anyway.

Yep, picked it up last weekend Edd - covered about 650 miles on it since. Spending £6 worth of fuel every 150 miles just seems bizarre after using the 600 over winter.

I had an 87 CG , I wish I never sold it, rode it for a year it never broke down , always started cost nothing in petrol. had 40k on it and was over 20 years old and everything worked like new.

The indicators went a bit dim and I had to clean the connections but that was the only negative thing i could say about it.

If I won the lottery and didn't have to work I would go round the world on one.

I done 15,000 plus miles on an 96 rf600r and all I had to replace was the tyres and chain.

Thing was a tank.

my little fazer with 63k on the clock has never broken down. All I have done is the occasional oil/filter change, it had it's first new set of plugs from new at 43k and had it's air filter cleaned at the same time (for the first time), had front wheel bearings and several sets of tyres and brake pads.

I've had the CD250 just over a year now and it's never let me down. Done just under 5000 miles on it in that time - it's required:

Horn (x2)
Rear brake light switch
Brake pads
Chain and sprockets
Headlight bulb
Rear tyre
Rear inner tube (separate occasion)
Couple of oil changes

Given that it's now 20 years old I don't think that's at all bad, especially considering the abuse I've doled out to it. Unfortunately the engine is now 'going home' - the compression on the left hand cylinder is down plus the bottom end is knocking. Poor old thing still keeps on going though!
