This sounds familier......
About 5 years ago me and my gf and a friend of ours pulled up to a set of traffic lights.Opposite there was a police car parked in a pub carpark.It was about midnight on a weekend,me and my mate were doing some sort of stupid dance and generally larking about in the car,we were drunk and merry.Girlfriend was driving and she was sober, as soon as we pulled away the copper was onto us and pulled us over.Girlfriend got 20 questions outside the car ,me and my mate stayed in the car.At one point a wpc stuck her head inside the car and shone a torch about when i talked to her she just ignored me. It was obvious to us then that it was just sour grapes because we dared to have a good time in front of them.
The police don't exactly operate a "hearts and minds" policy do they Rolling Eyes

I dunno, I quite like the idea of the police stopping cars they suspect may be driven by people who are drunk. That's certainly something that is likely to win my heart and mind over - I just wish I saw more of it.

As for not talking to you - everyone who's ever been sober around drunken people knows how irritating and pointless it is to communicate with them. You probably thought you were being witty and amusing, but the reality is you most likely come over as confused and boorish.

Suspect the story in the OP is slightly one-sided to make for better reading - using the word 'reluctantly' when no Telegraph reporter was there to witness the event suggest a lack of even-handedness......

It didn't look like my girlfriend was drunk,but it was obvious that they were throwing their weight around.
As for being confused and boorish,no chance! All i said was a polite hello, it wouldn't have hurt for her to say hello back.
The police seem to have developed their own arrogance.

How do you know what it looked like from outside the car? You were inside the car and you were dancing-drunk. I'll repeat my previous comments - most of us have been drunk at one time or another, and thought that we were the most witty, polite and engaging person in the world. Video/anecdotal evidence the next day usually proves us dead wrong.

Here we are again, with the police-state bullshit. The fucking pigs had no business stopping the car unless they saw the DRIVER acting erratically or the CAR being DRIVEN in a manner likely to make them think the driver was drunk. Seeing two PASSENGERS behaving erratically is NO grounds for stopping the fucking car.

If it had been me I'd have had their IDs and made a formal complaint. Would have gone nowhere of course, even when you take seven rounds in the head from a pig for doing FUCK ALL none of the cunts are held to account, but it would mark their copybook.

Laughing well we're already being taxed to keep the air 'clean' so not too hard to imagine.

I think stopping someone laughing while driving seems a little extreme, but it really depends how it looks, some people are nutjobs, being a company director doesn't exclude him from being so, there's a chance he genuinely did look like a drunk nutter in a car.

Same goes for 2 people dancing around in the back of a car, even if the girl driving did look sober the 2 pratts in the back could've been distracting and there's a chance they weren't wearing seatbelts etc so again probably justified.

whilst i generally agree with you i find this statement a bit silly..

id rather they stopped the car and checked rather than waited until she'd crashed and killed her friends or someone else before seeing if she was fit to drive or not.

it may delay you a bit but a stop check is not the end of the world.

20-20 hindsight is a great thing, if they'd stopped her and she had been drunk it would be job well done and probably seen on the latest road wars on sky. however, as she was sober its suddenly a waste of time and 'why dont you go out and catch some real criminals'

Too many people seem to have an opinion on us getting stopped so I'll give you the FACTS and i wont make anymore replies.
FACT The driver was sober and driving very well, like she always does.
FACT Me and me mate were drunk enough to be merry,but not drunk enough to behave like "pratts".
FACT We all had our seatbelts on,they could see that from where they were sitting.
When i say hello to someone i expect them to reciprocate even if i'm merry. She chose not to,manners don't cost nowt.
I've been pulled over by the police a few times over the years and mostly they have been polite and courteous,but a couple of times they have behaved quite badly, that's just the way it is i suppose,people are what they are.
In my opinion we wern't deserving of a pull,but i think the coppers thought we were "baiting" them, that's certainly the feeling we all got afterwards.
It's a shame that there's so many perfect people sitting at their computers judging everybody and knowing everything.......
It's just a curious how i never seem to meet these people in real life.

Thats all good and well Mr Jimbo but to be honest I have got to the point where I have lost the attitude I had of most coppers are okay.

I think they are ALL a waste of space, they are very quick too "act" in circumstances like this all over the country. Yet at work a couple of weeks back I had two car loads of lads on the industrial estate at night looking round a couple of business', I follwed as is my job when they went further into the estate, I was blocked off at one point and given threats.... "you're gonna get f*cking battered tonight".... and loads of crap gobbed off.

One of the business owners was there and asked me to call the police as he was quite rightly worried about his premises, so I did, I gave descriptions and part reg's of the cars, I told them what they were upto including the threats of me supposedly going to get a battering.

They gave me an incident number, told me it was down as a "grade 2" and there would be a unit sent out within 10-60 minutes.

I didn't see the filth for a week, thats not me exagerating, a whole week! And even then they just drove round the estate in record time ignoring the 15-20 nob heads gathered outside a business late at night and just nodding at me and getting the hell out of there.

POLICE?

Rubbish, nothing but filthy revenue collecting scum.

I am not intolerant of peoples views,people have there own personal space and view points and there entitled to them both,in that space..There space.

Funny story. Being very happy does impair judgment though. If I could wipe the Very Happy off my face wile riding I’d be safer. I’m sure the novelty will where of a bit soon. Crying or Very sad

To be honest though I’d have just said ok I’ll chill out.

A problem with an overly militant attitude is we don’t improve relations between us and the police. They are just people after all. If we always kick in there face it encourages a less respectful attitude.

But treating them with respect (even if you feel hard done by) puts the focus back on them. They are less likely to think, `Rebel`…..In fact they are likely to think `he/she showed respect` and that feeling is far more likely to make them think about the people they serve as deserving it also.
