Hi all

Im new to the bike seen and bought my first bike 2 days ago its was an aprilia rs125 1999 in need of some work but got it cheap. I took it for a test run and all was fine apart from the fact the bike needed a jump start as battery is supposed to be scrap.

Since getting the bike home I am unable to start it

I charged the battery and its holding around 13.5V.

Still not starting

I checked and cleaned the spark plug it sparks well of the body work but does not seem to seat properly and if a different code than stated by aprilia. Could this cause the problem?

The other thing is that the choke sitch seems to be jammed. possibly happened in transit. Could this stop the bike from starting if it is jammed in the on or off position.

Checked fuel is coming through ok.

Need some help Cheers[/b]

if the battery is scrap, you get a new battery, not recharge it.

these stop my rs from starting, then i feel like an idiot when i get stressed and realise that its in gear or the killswitch is engaged Razz

hi,
rs is a nightmare to start if the battery is dodgy.
get a new one.
stick a new spark plug in. (get a couple) BR9/BR10 (have you actually checked for a spark?-edit just re-read your post-oops.))
as for the choke, there not much to it.
the lever just pulls the cable & this pulls onto a little brass plunger on the carb.
disconnect it if you think its stuck open.(this might cause problems starting it & keeping it running, (never had to use the choke on my rs)
there should be a spring at the carb end to reseat the plunger.
cheers,
GAZ

If the battery is turning the engine over fine you do not need to replace it, just keep an eye on it.

Things to check -

1) Is neutral light on
2) kill switch
3) Petrol

Hi,
problem with the rs, is lcd will show the battery voltage as 12v, but its wildly innacurate!
mine was showing 12v & multi-meter showed 10v!
& the rs needs a fully charged battery to start.
couple of hits on the starter button is enough to drop the voltage sufficiently for it not to start- so bump it!
then get the multi-meter on it.
12-13v at idle.
15v @5000rpm.
worth taking it off & trickle charging it.
rs eats plugs though, lol, so dont bother with the iridium or platinum ones, just stick to the copper or iron es/eg. at 3 quid!
always kept a spare under the seat.
cheers,
GAZ
