Sheltex, any good?

Hi,

Looking to possibly buy the day lite jacket from Hein G tomorrow.
Just wondering what Sheltex is and if its any good?

Keep hearing mixed things about it, same as goretex, cheaper version, etc etc

Not too sure what it is exactly myself, but i've got sheltex taged gloves and textile trousers from HG. Both are water proof, no problems with either.

A chap I work with has had that exact same jacket for two years, he hasn't reported any problems, and we're all fairly vocal when it comes to gear not living up to expectations.

One thing though in torrential rain he wears a set of waterproofs over the top.

My goretex gloves are definitely 100% waterproof.

Remember though, that if you put anything goretex / shelltex / any-other-tex near something hot, ie a radiator, it will melt the goretex membrane that is inside the gloves / boots / trousers / whatever.

I ruined a pair of these gloves that way

Was out riding in the pissing rain/hail wearing my sheltex jacket earlier on today and made it home bone dry (was chucking it down for about an hour or so) and hasn't let any damp through yet (owned my jacket since july and use it near enough every day).

My HG Shelltex jacket has done me proud over the last year or so. It hasn't leaked a drop, which is more than I can say about its more expensive Bering predecessor.

Sheltex/Goretex are similar just Goretex is better quality and more breathable.
The daylite got a few good reviews but was told it was limited only.
So they must of brought it back.

Got the new HG daylight jacket (£150 introductory offer), seems pretty good.
Couple of niggles so far tho, I find getting gloves under the sleeves a little difficult and there is only one place to pop in the neck flap.
