On a learner licence you have to ride a 125.
Sorry.

You can't really restrict cc without doing major mods to the engine. You would restrict the bhp, however the learner licence doesn't allow you to do so. Hence the bike has to be 125.

Nope.

And the amount it would cost would be horrible. You'd need a 125 piston and rings, with a 250 bore sleeved to 125.

There are lots and lots of cheap 125s out there, particularly on ebay.

Whats your budget and what are you looking for?

As has been said,

L plates allows you up to 125cc and up to 15bhp, no more either in cc's or bhp

If you want cheep look on ebay for a cg125 or gs 125, they WILL be sold for as little as £400 but don't expect allot out of them (though don't expect allot out of anything for that much).

If you want uber cheep honda c90, the 3rd worlds favorite transport Very Happy

well 900 will get you on any kind of 125.

Is it 900 to cover bike, insurance, and gear, or just 900 for bike?

As zero said, you'll get a CG/GS 125 for 400 quid easy. Less if it needs work, and theres not a lot of work to do one of them.

For a reasonable cond 2 stroke sports 125 you'd be paying 500+ for an NS125 or AR125 and 700+ for an NSR, TZR or RG.

Buy old. Its cheaper, and the designs havn't changed in 15 years.

on e-bay as we speak.

thing is if i buy one that needs repairing not sure how to do it. those haynes manuals any good? or is it worth just taking to a bike shop???

Hi

Technically there used to be some kits available to convert the old 250cc 2 stroke twins to 125cc (basically by removing a piston).

Very inadvisable.

All the best
