just replaced the 80 jet for the 72 that was in it and cleaned the carb out but it has made the problem worse than it was before.

This makes me laugh, i will get in there before anyone else does.
Its a 50cc scooter, its not gonna go much faster.
But for giggles, get a bigger jet.
Oh and you havent tried to clean your air filter by any chance?
Or has the new engine been run-in yet? ____________________ We are the Patriots! Love your country. |

Seems strange for it to get too hot. |
How does it seem strange it gets hot? Of course if you leave a bike ticking over for ages and the radiator is not fan assisted, the temperature will just keep climbing. |
You might just get on a new engine and ride it, but I know i wouldnt be. A 50cc scooter needs to be hammed just to get it up to the speed limit, and you aint gonna stay at 20mph are you?
Its best you dont, a new engine is very fragile untill its been run-in.
Yes, it will get hotter when stood still on tick over, but not so hot you need to turn it off!
If that was the case, every fucking scooter in a city traffic jam would be over heating. |
How do you think people run in 50cc scooters when they buy them brand new from a shop? Leave them ticking over for ages before they set off on the ride home? I think not. They rev the tits off them and forget about it. Yes, it's not ideal for the engine
(or is it?) but what else is there to do?
Why would every scooter in city centre traffic overheat? For one, they are not being run for prolonged periods of time sat in traffic, it's a scooter, they're rarely stopped when on the move. Also, as this is a liquid cooled scooter it is more prone to overheating (especially when there is no fan to cut in and keep the engine cool if it starts to get really hot) than an air cooled scooters as air cooled scooters are cooled via a fan that is connected directly to the crank thus always having a flow of air when stationary.
What did you think fans were for on liquid cooled bikes? Fun? No, it's to keep the engine cool when the temperature starts to climb up. |

Yeah actually, i thought they were there to make a funny noise and increase the air speed around the bike for better acceleration.
When bikes come out the factory they have already been run for a while, and they get primed before first start up. I dont know if you have thought of this, but the bikes already have been used before bought, they get tested you know? So that kind of cuts out the first part of the running in process doesnt it? ____________________ We are the Patriots! Love your country. |
