First time in a go-kart tonight and it was awesome!

I managed the fastest lap time but only managed second (i was robbed,i should have won) but in fairness the bloke who come first was a good driver.

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/karting/DSC00134.jpg

https://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x13/fronterapics/karting/DSC00133.jpg

We were told not to overtake if it meant knocking someone off the track,so i hung back behind the slower drivers until i could get a safe place, but while i was doing that the other bloke flew past hitting the slower driver and got away with it!

Even still it was great fun and credit where it's due he was the quickest driver on the day.

Cant wait until next week when i go back.

Just thought i'd share this as i'm still buzzing from it Laughing

(This was at Karting north east

Oh really??
I've got a reason to visit my grandparents now.

Karting is great fun, even if it is a rip off.

Yeah would be a laugh, I only live at Ingleby Barwick as well, so its a lot closer than sunderland haha.

Would be better in the summer, I might actually have some money by then as well lol.

Well i'll be getting some practise in for now then.

It's only £40 quid at sunderland, which isn't all that bad really.(although i can see this getting quite expensive for me Laughing )

I didn't know there were anyone else from boro on here tbh (although i technically live in stockton). Hello Thumbs Up

Its in southbank, i belive.

Its near £50 there though. So sunderland is cheaper.

I love Karting, got right into it towards the end of last year until it was too slippy to be enjoyable. Gets expensive though at £50 a pop for half hour Confused

That outdoor track at Warden Law is sweet, particularly like the bit where you go through the bus-stop chicane, then flat out round the long right hander before last minute braking into the right hairpin. Great stuff.

Indoor karting is shit in comparison - so little grip.

There is(was?) a fantastic outdoor track down in Smoggsville, which I went to once, but I have heard rumours that it may have closed. If not, get down there, it's top stuff.

Everytime I go it makes me want to get my own kart and do some race meetings. Sad

I came third by the way. They put my name down as Declon Laughing. Those times were at Rayleigh Karting. Qualified 6th and just stayed average and consistent. It's like £45 for 20 Practicse Laps, 15 Qualifying and 45 Race Laps. Isn't much for ~30 second laps.

I'm a serious lover of Karting, we tried to organise it but everybody has to pull out for various reasons, and I didn't know when the BCF one was, when I could afford it I'd travel about to get invovled in a good session.

That "bus-stop chicane" is the only bit where i was losing time.Must have been getting the wrong line into it.
The hairpin is annoying as the karts are soo slow to get going again from it Sad ,it's the 2 left-handers after that which i loved as you can go through them flat out and then have to slam on the anchors to get round the right before the finishing straight Laughing

The price was £40 for 45mins in total.That's 15mins qualifying and 30mins racing.(the pre-race briefing takes about 10mins)

So who's up for it then? i'm not bothered which track i go to,but i think outdoor will be more fun than indoor.

I wish they wouldn't use those shitty GX160 engines, but i suppose a 2 stroke would cost them more.
if you like it start doing it properly it's cheaper than you think depending on what class you enter into Thumbs Up

What happened on lap {squints} 15 fella?!?!? Wink

Looks nice and consistent otherwise Thumbs Up

Some of the indoor karts now have remote control restrictors and engine cuttoffs .... i.e. one setting limits them to x-revs/speed, the other totally stops the motor ...

If they have that system at your local tack, then simply buy a controller and if you aren't winning, click the guys in front onto the 'snail' restricted safety setting and zoom past!! Laughing

WIN!! Thumbs Up

Mr. Green

I've got my own kart and it is indeed a lot more cost effective on a daily basis ... but obviously more expensive to set up and hassle to transport and maintain ...

Lap 15 someone crashed so the race got stopped,so as i stopped they let 2 people in front of me (bit unfair) but only took me 2 laps to get past them again Laughing .

They did say they had electric trickery in the cars to slow/stop you if they needed to,but afaik it was never used that day.

I'd love my own kart, but i have too many motors at the minute to even think about another one Laughing (3 cars ,2.5 bikes is enough for the time being)

I absolutely love go karting.

I havent been in what feels like an eternity!

Normally pretty good, last time i went i had a realy hard race against my sisters boyfriend. Over an 80 lap race the gap between 2nd place and 3rd place was 6 laps.

The difference between me and him, 1st and 2nd, was 8 seconds!

That was a seriously fun few hours!

Would love to do it again, but its so expensive.

We've just had a local one open up here, so it means i dont have to do a 80 mile ish round trip any more, but its still £1 a minute.

To me, thats a lota cash. Sad

To be fair, you can get low-end 2nd hand 2-stroke DD (direct drive) kart for ~£250 ... at the tracks I go to (outdoor) its £30/day ...

Karting is so popular it is 'sessioned' so its not like you get a full 8rs or anything!! Laughing But £/min has to be at least double with hire karts ... so you don't have to go too many times before you get your initial outlay covered .. (and its still worth £250 to sell!!)

Also the power to weight is far greater on the 2-stokes, so they are more exhilarating ... with the correct gearing, they are good for ~80mph (with your 4ss quite literally scraping on the floor!!) ... I doubt the indoor ones do more than 30mph????

Here's a vid on my old kart ... it cost me £240

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLUHo_2RnR8&fmt=18

I've got a 2nd one now, same idea, just a bit newer and 'better' chassis .. kept this one too and take it as a 'spare' in case the new one has a problem Thumbs Up

Seriously if you love karting, you need to consider getting an aircooled 100cc DD kart ....

If you have a larger budget, a 125cc liquid cooled Rotax Max is the way forward ... low end 2nd hand are ~£1k though!! Thumbs Up

if you can afford it, a 125cc/250cc kart with gears is what you want Thumbs Up

i won a few championships in the 100cc's and 2nd last year in a lincolnshire championship, i would've won but the gear linkage broke on a race i was leading.

if you're interested in those, check out one of the gearbox kart races

Cool Thumbs Up (downloading vid now!!) not had a go in one, but working on the basis of how my 100cc DD goes, a 250cc gearbox must be mental!! Thumbs Up ...

Sadly the gearbox karts don't seem to be well supported where I go though ... their session only has 2-4 karts in it ... whereas the DD and rotax are full grids ...

You seen the vids of gixxerkart??!? ... now that is just plain silly!! Very Happy

Oh and yours is a 125cc right? ... how much power do they produce? (wondering if they are more or less or about the same as rotax ... )

Damn.

Just checked the lap records on their website and the best is 59.33!!
Surely that cant be on the same karts we were using?. Embarassed

I would consider buying my own kart, but i tend to go through phases like this and move onto something else within a few weeks Very Happy so i'll wait until i know i want to keep at it. Thumbs Up

So do I, but its all a bit circular for me ... i.e. I get all excited about one thing/hobby, then get bored .. so move onto the next ... but at an undetermined time my interest is sparked off again and I dust the {whatever} down and go play on/in/with that again!! .. I then get bored of that and play with summin else I have in my toy collection!! etc etc Laughing

More experience with the karts i bet. Did you try put your foot down earlier on the hairpin? So the karts power was there when you left the corner. Its stupid things like that which will lower your lap time Smile
