Has anyone had any issues with 2 piece leathers that zip together about 90% of the way round? Have they declined entry on the track?

No, all trackday stuff I've read has always said "One or two piece zip together leathers..."

Yeah thats what I thought, mine zip about 90% of the way round but I got a confirmation for my 1st trackday and it said you must have 360 degree zip up. Confused I might call them up and see if I can get away with it or a trip to the shop from where I bought the leather to see if they can change the zip for me... Sad

Don't show 'em and they won't know. Its nearly impossible to have a 360 degree zip. I expect they just mean they don't want a 10cm short zip at the back.

In 25+ trackdays I've never had my zip checked to see how long it is or even if it exists at all.

saw a clip with some words from the top bod at focused events a couple of days back, he was promoting trackdays generally (of course), and stated 2-piece leathers that zipped up 180 degrees are accepted. hope this helps... was a youtube thing...

Bishbash, are you taking your R1? If so are you insuring it for the day etc?

Always been worried about taking my CBR incase I severely fuck it up.

Yup, on the R1, and I have not taken out insurance. I am starting in the Novice group, so I wont be trying to break any track records or anything. Just to get a feel for it. I know my limits and what I can and cant do. As long as I have a good set of rubber on I think I should be OK.

I really do see it as going out for a hoon, but it just doesn't have the dangers of cars, junctions etc. So as long as I keep to my limits, I shouldn't crash.......

*crosses fingers

Fair point, that was what I was thinking of doing but still a little nervous about it. Suppose it might be ok in the novice group though.

As long as you don't try and ride too fast too soon you'll be absolutely fine. There's much more grip out there than you think even on road tyres.

Exactly this. I think G also made a similar comment somewhere too.

Robbie, I will be doing more of these track days this year, so you are more than welcome to tag along to one, two, three and join in. I ride with my mate who coincidentally is also on a CBR600RR.

Agree with MarJay and the others, it's just to stop those leathers with the small zip at the back being allowed on.

FWIW on one of the trackdays I went on my leathers were coming apart at the seams on my thigh, due to a recent off (and the fact they were very cheap leathers!). One of the instructors saw it, came over and told me that if they (as in the organisers) saw me on track like that I would be stopped. He then pointed me in the direction of a dude selling some black nasty, which I promptly used on the inside of the leathers to hold them together. Problem resolved! Thumbs Up

Your first time right...it won't be your last, just soooooo addictive!!

Give me a shout when you go, I may be up for some this year. The other piece of obvious advice I'll give you is

WARM YOUR TYRES.

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but on nearly all of the trackdays I've been on there has been at least one person crashing on cold tyres. It's completely avoidable.

a common mistake to also make is going out on tyres not scrubbed in, especially if its damp then its 5 times slippier than a tyres not scrubbed in.

in regards to the original question i have seen people out on trackdays with full body textiles and even someone with kevlar jeans at donnie both with focused events. I personally wouldnt want to take the risk.

novice is for really for novice riders though, people that are scared to explore how to ride there bikes properly and even open the throttle properly. if you do get frustrated with the group just lie about your experience otherwise you'll easily get told to go down into novices again due to lack of experience.
very annoying when you may spend the whole day avoiding being killed by inexperienced riders taking erratic lines over the track.
