I've found one for sale, and I've been looking out for a bike that I can ride legally on my restricted license (without having to restrict the bike)..

Googling it gives the impression that it either puts out 38hp, 40hp, or 45hp.. If it's 38 (at crank), as someone in the Scotland section pointed out, it'll probably be pretty close to 33hp at the wheel..

If it's 45, it's need restricted, and I can't imagine there is an FI kit, (wouldn't want to pay for one anyway).. So any suggestions for other ways to restrict it?

Thanks,

I would guess its lost a few bhp along the way and should be OK.

Only real way to tell would be a dyno test.

Personally having riden a Gn250 and a ZZR250 before getting the XJ600.
I would say go for a bigger bike and restrict.

Much safer and stable ride. Might even find its cheaper as the ins on the 250's was higher than the 600.... Karma

I would imagine that if Suzuki Japan quote it as producing more than 33bhp then you will have to have it restricted. Loss of bhp and dyno results from your local centre wont cut no ice with the powers that be.

Get a Suzuki Goose if you want a bang on 33bhp bike Cool btw mine isnt for sale Laughing

A dyno print out will cut sufficient ice with said powers that be.

The Suzuki figure is quoted at the crank, and the law states no more than 33bhp. Nothing more than that, so you can read the law as 33bhp at the wheel, so a dyno printout is more than adequate.

Yeah, iooi, you may remember my posts about the xj600 from ages ago.. I think I remember PM'ing you actually..

I had a divvy 600 restricted, didn't like the way the bike felt like it was labouring all the time.. Bought an RVF400 and don't want to restrict it, so am looking for something that will naturally put out 33hp or less, just to fill in the time..

Was looking at SRX400's and Goose 350's but they are hard to come by and tend to be a little out of my budget by the time I factor in travelling to pick them up..

The bandit 250 happens to be relatively close.. (and looks like it would be awesome fun Laughing).. I'm not too bothered if it feels less 'planted' because it's light.. it's not going to be a motorway workhorse anyway, since I now have a cage license Smile

just looking for an accurate idea of the power output..

Only way is a dyno test in real life.

Try calling Suzuki and asking them if you have more info on the bike, could be that over its life on sale, the power output increased.

Sure it won't cut any ice with police if they pull you, but even with a F1 cert. IF they don't believe its restricted they will take the bike for a dyno test.

Your average plod, is going to have no idea on the bhp output of any bike going, and i would bet even the traffic guys would struggle, which is why they take and test.

If it was me and i was happy with the price i was paying, just get it bought and test it.
If it is over there will be ways of bringing it under the limit and the tester should be able to advise you of the best one.

Best guess would be unless you were doing something really stupid in a 30 limit, on a 250 they would never even think of its power output.

Cagiva river 500 is 33bhp. I'm going to be selling one in 2 or 3 weeks.
