Hi all i have just fitted a ape manual cam chain tensioner and needed a bit of help the bike was rattling and knocking around 3 to 5 thousand rpm, so fitted the manual cct and the rattle, knocking noise has stopped, however i have set it with some play, slack in the chain it says about 6mm on the instructions but i think it still sounds a bit noisy and needs tightening slightly. I have read from a couple of people that they start the bike up to adjust the cct with the engine running by turning the screw by hand then backing it out 1/4 of a turn, when i was tightening the screw i had to use a socket to screw it up as it was to tight to do by hand, it didnt need no pressure on the socket at all it did up really easy is this a safe way to adjust them

many thanks .........

slacken the locking nut, run the engine, and blip the throttle quite slowly but widely, and snap off the throttle suddenly. if that makes sense.

like this (but yours hopefully didnt have a blocked pilot jet).

all the while, putting finger tight pressure on turning the CCT.

the CCT should turn when you snap the throttle closed, as the chain tension is being swapped.

once you find it cant be turned any more by hand (dont go mad on it), that is the correct tension. then hold it in place, then tighten the locknut.

the first few times i did this i whipped off the cam cover afterwards and had a check to find it was spot on.

a good thing ive found is when raising the tank, put the riders seat upright on top of the airbox and it holds it up for you, leaving enough room to reach the CCT and throttle at the same time.

probably doesnt make sense, but if not.
go fuck yourself.
