i've been riding for just over 1year and i'm looking to go for a bigger bike now. At the moment i ride a dna50, i will be doing my full test very soon and i've been looking at new RS125, should i be going for a 125 or can i just go for VFR400 restricted to 33bhp? and which would be the better bike to have form a 4k budget..
thanks in advance for any help

Once you pass your test you can get anything you like. As you'll only lose money on something you buy, then sell to upgrade you may aswell go for a 600 that you're gonna keep for a bit.
most of us who've had 400's got bored of them fairly quick and moved on to bigger and better, losing a bit on the way.

Sorry cant agree with this. A 400 compared to a 50cc is MADNESS. Trust me, i was riding with my bro today, him on 50cc me on Cbr400. The 50cc is nothing compared. The 400s power does not scare you, it just puts the power down safely and quickely, (so theres no going over the back). They are very forgiving bikes.

400s (0-60 about 5 secs) arent as fast as 600s, true, but they are fast! They handle really well and brake ace as well. Power and speed is not everything, with the 400s you learn to use corner speed, they are really easy to chuck into the corners. Excellent first sport bikes.

Personally id go for a 4 stroke bike. I have a cbr400, so to an extent im biased, but you cannot really go wrong with a nice little Honda 400 bike. Vfr400, Cbr400 or if you have bucks, Rfv400. Reliability is one of the main points i like about choosing Honda over another manufacturer.

I give 400s a big Thumbs Up

ps wouldnt bother spending 4k, if (hopfully not) you chuck it down ther road/drop it.

But you see he's gonna be restricting the bike to 33bhp anyways. Once you de-res a 400 you'll probably not be too impressed with the extra power.
DR a 600 and you'll feel like you've got a whole new bike.
