hi all....

im gonna have someone i know rebuild a shock for me as he is a shock builder.

when i took my mito (sach) shock to him he is having trouble finding out how to re-gas the shock as there is no nipple or gas tank to re-pressure it?

he says the only ones he does is the racebike OHLINS ones that have seporate gas nipple or tank?

does anyone know how these are pressured in the factory?

are they done in a pressured chamber?as that would be aquad.

for anyone who is a shockbuilder please let m eknow so i can help him out.

When I went to get my daytona shock rebuilt I was told that only remote reservoir shocks and certain others (I guess ones with a gas nipple) could be rebuilt. There are a great number of non rebuildable shocks out there...

It could be yours is simply not rebuildable?

On a mito i wouldnt expect it to be rebuildable.

The only ones i know of are Ohlins, i think some hagons and there are a few less known brands regularly used on track bikes i believe

Plenty of standard bike shocks are rebuildable, but as far as I know its only ones with separate or remote reservoirs.

AFAIK it's a basic non-serviceable unit.

Hagon do a basic replacement unit and Bitubo do a high quality fully adjustable one. An RGV250 or RS250 (Aprilia) shock will fit with minor machining to the upper mount and some shims on the lower mount.

Late model low mileage Mito shocks do appear on eBay often.

I have no idea, but the unit fitted to the Aprilia RS125 isn't that good by all accounts.

Also, according to an email from Maxton the Mito unit is a sealed non-servicaible unit, but they will build a fully adjustable unit for about £520 + vat.

It is Maxton we're talking about! Hell, even Ohlins will build one for you, but don't expect any change from £1200.

Lots of companies do units that fit the Mito, the cheapest is probably Betor, but I wouldn't touch them.

I could be wrong, Maxton could be wrong, who knows?

Yes they do! Thumbs Up

I have a basic type N(?) on another bike and although it's not fully adjustable it is serviceable. I can't really fault it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Spitfire should fork out a lot for a shock. All I am saying is that the Sachs unit is a budget item and is [probably] not serviceable and there are other options.

My personal choice for a basic shock would be a good used Sachs or a new Hagon unit, anything that has more adjustablity options just becomes very expensive.

The people who offer a shock rebuilding service on Ebay are Brook Suspension, who are, in my opinion, expensive. Try K-Tech instead, they are cheaper and really know their stuff.

Cheers

Hi

There are people around who can rebuild shocks that are not designed to be rebuildable. They can modify the shock body and weld on a connection to recharge the shock.

Try Revs Racing.

All the best

Keith
