Testing coils, what sort of resistances should I be getting?

Just fitted new points and condensers to my GS. Wasn't running before, still isn't now.... before changing the points/ condensers I didn't think to check that both points were working, but now only one is- no spark from the other when it's closed. No idea if malfunctioning coils would affect this, I suspected not, but anyway.

Unplugged the connections and gave both coils a poke with a multimeter. One had very little resistance- 4-5 Ohms, if I'm reading the meter right, the other was much much higher (and I assumed therefore buggered). However, plugging the low resistance coil in and leaving the high resistance one unplugged meant that neither of the points sparked, plugging the high resistance one back in meant it worked... but everywhere I've looked on the net suggests that resistance (between the two pins on the back) should be around 4-5 Ohms.... frankly, I'm bemused! Do I have two problems here, one stopping the point from sparking when shorted and one affecting the coil, or is it likely to be one thing?

I'm not sure if the test you've ran is sufficiant enough. if they're on the way out, most coils will malfunction when under load. A lot of Auto discount places can test car coils properly but, when I've asked, not bike ones unfourtunately.
