The biggest part of this is that these laws all RIGHTS to be withdrawn at any time.

If they were really rights , they they would be inalienable and could NEVER be withdrawn.

What this essentially means is everything that you consider to be a right , is infact actually a priviledge , in that priviledges can and are withdrawn.

Which pretty much sums up SOND's signature in that you don't actually have ANY rights at all.

Sickpup will probably be along shortly and quote article 44, but article 44 is useless when the all the guns are held by one party.

He is a little crazy, but that's by the by.

I find it endlessly amusing that people like you decry government spin (quite rightly) but put words in my mouth whenever it suits you.

I don't recall ever saying "if you've got nothing to hide....." - certainly not recently - but it's a fairly sensible starting point.

The fact that you need reminding (by way of over-dramatic paraphrasing) of these acts suggests that they haven't had much of an impact on your lives - or that you haven't noticed, which is essentially the same thing.

Quote:

Personally i cant stand it.

And yet, judging by the distinct lack of Government-overthrowing or Nick606-suiciding on the news, you obviously ARE standing it.

Anyway, I'll leave you crazy kats to your jibber-jabber - play nice now!

Yes you did , but you qualified it somehow ...

It was something like with a government you can trust if you have nothing to hide....

Or something like in the absence of a corrupt government if you have...

FFS.

ColdInsomnia, you are a victim of the very indoctrination you accuse us all of. Your scaremongering is nothing short of political spin. All you are doing is shoving largely pointless legislation down our throats, giving your interpretation of aforementioned acts, shrugged your shoulders and acted as if we are to blame for this atrosity.

There are a lot of young and impressionable people on this site, a lot of your facts are largely unfounded taking your information from people with as much, if not bias than the BBC. Let people make up their own minds. When and IF the government starts to abandon common democracy and submit authoritarian rule, which I may add is taking a rather long time. Pretty sure the Nazi's took advantage of the enabling act the next day, then I think you'll find it will start to give a shit.

If we went through every piece of information with your cynical viewpoint then we are royally fucked.

Look through the list of acts passed since 1980: - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Acts_of_Parliament_of_the_United_Kingdom_Parliament,_1980-1999

I picked one at random; The Public Order Act of 1986.

Lo and behold!

Quote:
Section 13 - Prohibiting public processions
Chief Officer Police has the power to [b]ban public processions[b] up to three months by applying to local authority for a banning order which needs subsequent confirmation from the Home Secretary.

Jeez! Looks like the tories got their foot in the abolishment of free speech way before New Labour! Grab your tin foil hats and run for cover!

These threads are absolutely diabolical and void of any intelligent input. They are merely scare material, designed to invoke a reaction. Well guess what, you got one!

Current affairs is well and truly is full of raving lunatics.

Although it has been mentioned by a couple of people I know that perhaps the bulk of the army is being kept overseas for a reason?

Excellent!! So why aren't the aligations about the documents in question being debunked?

Why is the person bringing them into question being attacked?
If its a misdiognosis then thats an even easier thing to deal with.

Why the constant reference to you tube and the internet when the origins of whats been said come from neither and are in government documents that direct our lives?

Whats wrong with the internet do you have such a low level of faith in your own judgment that you believe any one else who is not a government official or official media employee has nothing to say that could possible hold truth either?

The evidence is in your face theres Clearly been an on going attack on rights and its clearly going to get a lot worse.

I am Very glad i am not effected by the slides you lot have fallen to a confused mess to. Thumbs Up

100 days is nothing. 'Their' plan has been going on for over 100 years, there's no quick fix to the problems we're facing from them.

You could easily go out, bomb some things, kill some people and generally cause some trouble but it won't get you anywhere. Media will brand he/she as a lone lunatic and they'll be forgotten about in days with no one to hearing the point.

You could vote but all the parties are the same and that's not going to get you anywhere. You can petition and protest them but only if you stay out of the free speech zones to make it easier to be ignored.

You could try informing your peers on something like a message board on the internet and just wait for the tinfoil hat arguments to roll in.

Have you any other suggestions?

The big problem is if you replace the leadership via bad means you get worse leaders, this government is complicit in torture , if we get rid of them by bad means we create even worse monsters.

Chen Kai shek ended the Warlord era of China, and replaced it with his own brand of totalitarianism.

Mao deposed Chen Kai shek and imposed his absolute reign of terror.

Saloth Sar, over threw the the leftist party in Cambodia and he also caused a massive reign of terror.

The list goes on and on....

The only real shining example is Taiwan in that Taiwan up until 1987 was an absolutist totalitarian state people would go missing , any thing that contradicted the party line would be silenced and put to death.

Lee Teng-hui decided to democratise the nation, and the country is free and fair corruption is not tolerated , Chen shui bien was caught cheating in the elections and pocketing bribes and is rotting in prison currently.

This means there are two ways out of this , ie for a leader to appear like Lee Teng-hui (unlikely) or something many many people will not like total societal collaspe.

In that in total societal collaspe we get to rebuild from scratch the state apparatus will no longer exist to implement such laws.Being that in effect the government is just a monopoly on inflicting violence upon people it isn't all that different from extortion.

A VERY large number of people will die though as when the collapse occurs there will be wide spread rioting famine disease and murder for food. But once the dust settles there will be two kinds of society , one run by warlords where a despot has the major monopoly on application of violence (not a million miles away from where we are now) or we have a minimalist barter society with affordances whereby you don't murder the baker because without the baker you starve, you can't murder the water pump guy or the guy who grows the wheat either. And thus everybody becomes useful enough not to be murderable.

However as Morpheus said in the Matrix people will defend the current system because they are used to it , they open their fridges and there is food inside there is electricity running water. A collasped society would be regular occurances of violence , lack of food and all sorts of nasty things.

Thus either hope for somebody like Lee Teng-hui , or destroy the current system and rebuild from the ground up.

I don't understand this view. What am I doing about it? Why not attempt to overthrow the government by myself? I'll answer the blindingly obvious for the hell of it anyway;

Unfortunately for myself and any who question the established power structures in society, there exists a very vague, very open to interpretation term for people like us. And there also exists a wide variety of laws that allow us to be treated as criminals by our own government without fair trial, or even being told of the charges against us. We are the terrorists. We strike fear into the hearts of governments and corporations with our dangerous suggestions that maybe, just maybe, the world's power structure is outdated, self-consuming and socially crippling.

What am I doing about it? Just about the only thing I can do. I try talking to people about it. Sadly, I am not able to take on the British Police or the Army, nor would I want to. Neither do I think that the answers to our problems will come from storming Parliament with a bomb; that would only make matters far, far worse.

The fact that you need reminding (by way of over-dramatic paraphrasing) of these acts suggests that they haven't had much of an impact on your lives - or that you haven't noticed, which is essentially the same thing.

Utter nonsense. Many people have had their lives affected by these draconian laws, ranging from the muslims accused of making ricin in a 'bomb factory' (remember this news scare?). Was any ricin ever found? No. Did this stop the police shooting one of the suspects in the chest, on pure assumption that he was a criminal? No. Did this stop the massive media smear-campaign against the suspects, who were held under terrorism laws, with no evidence against them? No. Did this stop Tony Blair and George W Bush using the "recently foiled poison plot" as proof of the need for anti-terrorism laws and an invasion of Iraq, aside from the fact that THERE NEVER WAS ANY RICIN EVER FOUND, NOR ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT?

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

Your scaremongering is nothing short of political spin.

I presented nothing of political spin anywhere in the original post, every shred of it is fact. You're just finding it hard to swallow that you're not quite in the free country you thought you were.

Take a leaf from your own book. If you think we're living in a free country, then go ahead, prove it to me. Using the old "Oh, well things are alright right now" is a hideously short-sighted view.

When and IF the government starts to abandon common democracy and submit authoritarian rule, which I may add is taking a rather long time.

Democracy is simply not possible in a monetary based society where a political parties' popularity is largely artifically projected by the media. Politicians are not the rulers, they are nothing more than the entertainment sector of the military-industrial complex. The true rulers of the world, the true terrorists of this world sit at round tables at the very top floors of the world's tallest skyscrapers. Don't believe me?

Companies like Exxon, General Motors, etc. These companies have more financial power than many countries such as Italy and Belgium. Corporations are the nations of the world today, and they are not elected to power. They get there by insidious, dehumanizing business tactics purely designed to maximise profit over all else, regardless of the environmental or social effects.

Jeez! Looks like the tories got their foot in the abolishment of free speech way before New Labour! Grab your tin foil hats and run for cover!

As has been mentioned before in this thread, and if you had looked even remotely in to the point that many of us fruitcakes are trying to make, is that this is a process that has been going on for over a hundred years. We have not had a true, democratically elected government that does not pander to corporate pressure for profit for a very long time. To use the fact that the tories introduced powers that were never actually used as some sort of proof that political parties are not owned by profit-hungry corporations is once again, very short sighted. The two party system pushed by the privately-owned media is an absolute joke to democracy.

I actively go out and speak to people I meet on the streets, in University, and I make raving-looney crazy posts on Bike forums about how the world is governed by the lust of profit and not humanitarian interests. Because I'm abso-fucking-lutely crazy.
