Advice please. honda nsr 125

Hi all, this my first post on here so please be kind! lol.
i've just bought myself a honda nsr 125. Its an inport with Rreg on the plate The bloke i bought it off said it has a 2001 engine in it with a power valve taking it up to 33bhp. It was registered in the uk 2002..I was just wondering if a 2001 engine would have a power valve on it? as i've been told that only earlyer one's had it on.

Also can any one advice on what 2stroke oil i should use? ( this is my first 2stroke bike )

They all have powervalves.
It won't be making 33hp, but if it's been derestricted may be making about 24hp.

I always used Castrol TTS - any other good quality fully synthetic pre-mix oil should be fine.

Thanks for that.. How will i know if its been derestricted or not?..
I bought the bike yesterday took it for a ride and got about 110 km out of it but didn't realy push it.Aslo been told you've got to realy get the revs up to max so that the powervalve kick in is this right ?

You'll have to ride it up at the powerband, near enough the redline to get power out of it.

110km/h is restricted territory but you said you wasn't pushing it, give it a go, push it as fast as it'll go and see, anything over 110 should be derestricted.

(Making sure it's warmed up etc first) take it third third to red line, then redline in fourth, fifth and sixth if you can. If it does this, you should be doing about 100mph on your speedo, so do it on an Autobahn! If, taking it to the redline in each gear, it still stops at a similar speed, it's most probably restrcited.

On that, are you actually in the UK? (As you mention km/h on a UK bike.)

Hi yes i'm in uk. the bike is an inport so the clocks are in Km/h.
Will try and do that in the next few days..will let you know how it does..

Oops, I missed the bit where you said it's an import.

There's lots of different factors that come into play then - the UK bikes are a bit 'simpler' in that aspect.

My NSR was hitting about 120-130km/h restricted which I think is around the 60-70. If you're going to derestrict it buy a decent exhaust instead of using the stock one, not for 'super uber power gains' but some of the exhausts actually take away the whiny 2-stroke sound which you will grow to hate!

Hi all, took my bike to work this morning and decided to open it out a bit to see what speed i could get it up to. got it up to just over 130km/h which i think is about 80mph in fifth gear,it was on 9000 revs and climbing, it would have done more but had to slow down (bloody lorry's) lol. so i dont think it's restricted. Even if it is i'm very happy with that kind of speed on the A road that i use, with all the lorry's on the road i need a bit of speed to overtake.

Have fun with it, try not to get caught doing 80+ on a bike that should only do 65ish.

Standard restricted to 12hp NSR will do 75, so I suspect 80 or a tad over is reasonable from a 'real' 14.6mph; the current legal limit. My NS125, which was supposed to be 18hp or so I think would just about hit 90mph.
Anyway, still, don't want to give a savvy cop even more reason to cause trouble!

Get something like this to convert your current speedo to mph. Means you probably will only ever get half way around your clock but at least you don't have the over lays
