We have one operating in my area but it's only a small town so yes people do get recognised easily.

When my brother was running his own gaff he was part of one,a nd yes they do work. He had a mugshot gallery in the back with all the reprobates and degenerates stating what other pubs they were banned from, length of ban, reason for ban etc. Some of them looked a right fucking state, was funny though. He had a few try their luck but to no avail

But i read this on another forum whilst trying to find more info . . . .

https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=4670288

"Last friday the monthly stocksbridge pub watch meeting took place at which a representative from sheffield council was present to inform licensees that the placing of notices with peoples names on are now illegal under data protection law as are possessing "mugshot" pictures of those on the list. Apparently there is a maximum fine of £20,000 PER NAME disclosed and the police would be in the biggest trouble for distributing the details,a PC came to the pub where I work to collect the lists that morning and now we dont know who is on the Pubwatch ban or what they look like rendering the scheme obselete! Ridiculous!"

Its a recent post can anyone confirm this ?

I'm not a degenerate or a reprobate just in the wrong place at the wrong time, bouncers are a different breed if you know what i mean.

Hmmm wouldn't know, my bro had to give up his business in November.

It's probably true though, no doubt the Human Rights brigade has caught wind of this one and demanded that these individuals have every right to frequent a pub and smash a glass into someones face while they are enjoying a quiet drink with their families and/or loved ones. Who the fuck are the landlords to single out these poor thugs?

Anyhow, unless you're name and face is well known about the town I doubt these bans will come to much.

Oh yes, half the bouncers are just body builders, ie spend their whole life down the gym to make up for their small cock/homosexuality/horrible childhood/ineptitude with women. Got to take it out on somebody Rolling Eyes

Quite funny how much they panic/bend over for the 'proper' headcases.

Don't get me wrong, I know quite a few sound bouncers. The type who can actually handle themselves, but don't need to half as much because they're polite. However, they're definitely in the minority Sad

SPOT ON -

Punched a bouncer on the chin, i mean come on man just step to the left and watch me fall over! Evil or Very Mad

That's it they are in my head now with the lorry drivers. I hate them both.

I have my own axe to grind with the buggers

Got a 6-month ban from two of the three clubs in my uni 'city' over that nonsense, despite only being at uni another 2 months following that.

The irony was, the huge bloke who thought he was hard as hell (cos he was from the isle of dogs... grr) had had about 4 heart attacks already.

I do understand the need for this sort of thing and yes repeat / serious offenders should be banned , but this is my first time i never did anything apart from make one mistake i let him get in my head,

Im a geek who likes a drink, not a violent person at all so hopefully your right because i'm not known - the bans won't come to much.
But i just wanted to ask someone that had one is all,

Thanks ghostrider

This really doesn't add up.

I love the way it's gone from "I didn't do anything" to "I punched a bouncer in the face" Laughing

You'd be holding information on people without their knowledge or consent, and not holding it in a secure way. That should contravene the data protection act in one or two places.

It would probably be acceptable if the banned people were informed that their photo and information was being held by the pubwatch people in that area, the data was held securely (in a locked cupboard or on a passworded or encrypted computer), and the only people that could access the data were people that needed to (pub staff).

OK I attend Pubwatch and work in the Licensing scene at the mo and have ALOT to do with our local Pubwatch so can confirm.

As long as all Pubwatch members and Police have signed the Information Sharing protocol and the photos and data of the banned individual is stored under LOCK and KEY then it's totally legal for Pubs to have this info. It is to be shown to staff periodically and not to be in the public arena.

Absolute tosh !

Anyway on most occasions if the offender has got a criminal conviction the name and details can be spread in the paper as it's a mattter of public interest and the data is not restricted.

At the end of the day all Pubwatch members put forward offenders for their behaviour and a committee has to sit down and decide if that person is to be excluded and how long for, so not being recognised is not possible unless the bar staff are half asleep .... a long discussion would have been had by all over them.

Banned people are served an exclusing notices which outlines all of the above, so totally above board !!

They should behave and let others enjoy a night out without a fracca. Last one I had dealings with left someone needing 60 stitches to their face ... nice!

Hope this clarifies

Generally my opinion too. Im just your average bloke who likes a beer and a good laugh with his mates, my idea of a good night isnt sticking the end of a bottle in someones face and saying 'Stitch that jimmy'.

If you cant handle a drink then you dont belong in the pub. Often being the smallest bloke going is helpful in this situation as you have your night interrupted by some tosspot who can't handle his ale and his life all in one go hits you in the side of the head from behind. Lovely people.

Most people are well known in most bars near me, if you are banned in one others will let you in so they can have another customer, as more and more pubs are closing.

If you are a real cock you will be known to all landlords who converse with the locals, and promptly told to fuck off if you come inside when the crowd of bar props recognize you in an instant.
