hi, im in need of some help. i need a replacement fuel tank for my vfr. now obviously because of her age getting one in good condition is like winning the lottery 15 times in a row - it aint gonna happen. so im considering other compatible tanks, the problem is i dont know which tanks are truly compatible. i know the nc24 tank is identical, i know the nc30 tank will not do as its too wide and the mounting lugs are in the wrong place. i have been looking at a vfr800 fuel tank and it looks like it may do the job. i would have to modify the forward lugs to make it fit but im not worried about that - i am however wondering if it would physically fit on the bike (shape is slightly different and im not sure about the length either) and give me the same clearance for the handlebars as my old tank. so i really need to hear from people who have been in the same boat to get ideas of where to go next.

I wouldn't have though so a VFR 800 is alot newer and bigger than a 400. Just get and old one and get it repaired/sprayed up to match your bike shouldn't cost more than £150 all in.

Get your tank repaired. I don't even think that the NC24 tank is entirely identical.

to be honest NC21's are so old now I don't even know if is worth restoring one.

If the one you have is giving up the ghost because of rust, then the easiest thing is just to chuck in two or three treatments of petseal or similar.
Be very careful about going down the road of spending lots of money on a grey import 400. They can take all of your money and still not work.

yeah im starting to see how this could turn out to be expensive. i suppose my best bet then is to get another tank and use this petseal stuff then sell the bike while she is still running. my tank i think is unrepairable anyway so i think thats what ill do.
thanks everyone for the advice.
