So, this may seem a silly question, but...

Having come off a 2 cylinder bike, onto a 4 it seems like anything on the Hornet is thrashing due to how easily the bike revs.

On the GPZ it would feel thrashed at 7-8k revs.

So basically what I want to know is going above 6K revs on the Hornet doing it bad? It feels like its being thashed.

What do you think is thashing?

Course its not being thrashed, my fz6 would pretty much see every gear through till the redline and had no problems with it.

Going above about 1/3 revs when the engine's cold is thrashing it to me.

Going above about 3/4 revs is pressing on, but as long as the engine's warm it won't hurt it.

The hornet only really gets going above about 10k.

GPZ really comes alive between 7K and the red line, keep it up there and it can hussle along fairly well, so it was definitely not being thrashed.

Took me a we while to get used to keeping the revs high, rather than the lazy car driver approach.

When I am on the right road and thrashing it, I will keep my bike between 11-15K or so... that is while I am thrashing it...

However on the motorway I will be continually doing 10k (about 75-80mph in top gear), which I sometimes feel is quite bad, but it has never had any problems. Yet.

At the end of the day, as long as the engine is warm, anything below the rev limiter is what the bike is designed to do. If you're riding along on the redline constantly then you will work the engine harder than someone who knows how to change gear, I would count that as thrashing it unneccessarily but giving the engine a good work out is a good thing, IMO.

Spent about 40 mins last Sunday dancing around lanes on the 600rr. That was pretty much between 8k-15k for the most part, didn't get too hot either.

Agree with Big Ham, get the engine warmed first. Oil also costs bugger all really so if its getting dirty get it changed, makes a big difference to performance and engine life!
