Personally I quite like them, I got a test ride on one a year back and it was pretty cool.

The only thing that lets them down is exhaust.

ive had one for about a year now alright and good fun, to be honest it depends what you want if for, tricks then no, not bad speed for a 50, but the thing that lets it down badly is it hates bad weather, the clock get condensation in them ive had mine changed 5 times upto now, Twisted Evil again very soon, (city scooters really don't like me).. i'd say yes to getting one because ive had lots of fun on mine...
hope that helps

I think its good if perhaps you learnt to ride a scooter and wanted to change to a bike.
But I don't know nothing because my knowledge bikes tends to be limited to
"are you on about the blue one or the red one" *points*

Just before I got my NSR, I looked at a DNA125 as a possible cheaper alternative.

Being 6ft3, I decided against it after sitting on it for 5 seconds. My feet were up my arse and I must've looked a right twat on it (in hindsight, I think its impossible for anyone to look cool on a DNA).

Its like one of those silly little bikes that clowns ride. Only they're meant to look stupid. Smile

If you're looking at a 50 I'd say go with a cheap old one, something like a dt, ts or ar etc can all be got for not much. They can also more importantly be fixed for not much when you drop them, insurance should be cheaper and you'll have money left over to get a nicer bike when you're 17.

I had a Dna 50 up until April this year when i got my Nsr. They are better than a step through ped but i wished that id gone for something cheeper with gears. The wheels are a bit small so it is quite twitchy. Mine was reliable and I only had to buy oil and petrol for it. If you do get one get a black or red one, but not the yellow! Embarassed By the way i paid £280 3rd party f+t.

why would someone want to pay more for something which is no better than something much less. If a twist and go is what your after, maybe get a bog standard scooter, after all, they will only do the same speed de-restricted and can still be tuned if you want to "make the most of it".

If you want a 50 but want something which actually looks and rides like a bike, you'll be better off with a geared ped, either a race replica or an enduro such as the RX, Senda, TS (although they only put out 3bhp and have a top speed of 35mph) etc etc.. It'll give you a lot more experience with the gears and clutch control when you come to getting a 125.

My friend had one last year, lol, we branded him DNA Dan, it was good until the transmission (which is CV, using a belt and pulleys system) broke, and neither he or I had the mechanical knowledge to fix it.

If you do a lot of traffic-dodging in town then a DNA 50 is a good choice. It's nippy and quick in town, and you can really fling it around. I've only ridden one twice, but it felt comfortable enough and very easy to handle. Steering is quick, but the low centre of gravity makes it feel stable.
On the open road it will feel like a let-down, as they run out of puff pretty quick.
As for getting a geared bike: I used to race with a DNA 50 in town when i had an RS50. The RS is faster and quicker, but in traffic you have to work hard, going up and down 3 or 4 gears to keep it the tiny power band. Clutch arm would be sore after 10mins of that! The DNA looked much easier to handle, no clutch, no gears and could still keep up in traffic.
THis guy had a variator kit and claimed 70mph (though all 50 owners claim 70mph)

it was good but the gearbox fell to bits once and it was off the road for months.

The transmission is CV, using a belt and pulleys. They're tough and very simple to fix. You'd want to be a pretty special person to make the "gearbox" fall to bits, and even more special not to fix it in half an hour.

The DNA is one of the slower 50's to be fitted with a piaggio hi-per2 engine. In any other ped its a good engine but the DNA is overweight.
