When i'm at a garage and it's busy with cars waiting to get to the pump,I always move my bike out of the way so the next car can start filling up while i get my gloves and helmet on. I've always done this. What annoys me is car drivers who don't bother saying thanks or even giving me a a friendly nod. I even had a woman in an Audi glare at me because she didn't think i had moved far enough forward, I had, but she didn't know how long her bonnet was Confused
Come on,if i've gone to the trouble of moving my bike out of the way, the least you can do is acknowledge me,it's only politeness.
Do any of you lot move your bike for car drivers? Have you found car drivers are getting more rude ever year?
So i will not ever do it again nor nuffink neither!

Nope, never why would you do that? I don't move my car when I fill up so not going to move the bike.

I never move out of the way until i have paid, i didn't even know the pump could be used again before paying until yesterday when the most ignorant pig of a taxi driver pulled up right next to the bike and filled up while i was paying for my fuel, letting the fuel pipe rest on the seat. I went back and checked my bike over with a fine toothcombe afterwards.

I would of said something, but lets just say i was near bradford Wink

I never move it. Why should I? They can wait their turn, and I'm not finished until I've paid, put my wallet away and gloves back on, then ridden off.

Moving the bike before putting your lid and gloves on means more chance of dropping your bike and lid, leading to expense and/or embarrasment. I wouldn't bother, they would be unlikely to move their motor for you before fiddling with the radio/opening chocolate for their kids/making phone calls and all the other things they do before setting off.

Bikers regularly don't say 'cheers' to cars that move aside to help them too, but car drivers still do it - I do try myself, but filtering with muffs it can be a bit of a pain, especially if you're at a reasonable pace - though I have now got a hazard light switch for this purpose.

I never move my bike. I'm only in the shop for 2 minutes to pay and I don't want to give the owners the impression that I'm doing a 'fill and run'.

i think he means after you've paid, moving your bike out of the way so they can be filling the car up while you put your gloves and helmet on.

I do this and 9/10 i get an acknowledgement

They can wait there for all i care. I mean if i don't take off all my helmet and gloves im gone straight away, but if i do have to take my stuff off they can bloody well wait.

Most of the times, its the inept bastards who don't realise that the pump hoses is quite capable of getting to the other side of the car so you don't have to have the fuel cap on the correct side to the pump.

A pump can have 2 lots of fuel on it at once.

I move the bike from the pump before paying if I am at my regular garage, other than that I tend to leave the bike at the pump until I have paid.

sometimes, i had one snotty posh women in an audi glare at me while i was paying once, spent about 5 minuites putting my gloves on, fidilling with the clocks etc.

if they look like nice people ill move out the way or hurry up, if not they can wait.

Also i allways say thanks to cars if they move over to let me pass, never not thanked a car for doing that.

Hi, i don't move my bike. The less moving about on the forecourt the better.
As for thanking cars, well sometimes a sideways nod if they move when i'm filtering. The biggest problem that cars have is how to let me out at junctions. Round here when they stop, they expect you to mind-read..no flash..wave. So there is that awkward pause Confused
Ahh well..could be worse..just 20miles away you get beeped for letting someone in/out.

Not a chance - my bike stays where it is until I'm ready to move. There's enough hazards to deal with in a fuel station without adding more in.

Another thing I do when I'm at a busy station (my local morrisons often has 15-20 cars queuing to fill up) is ride along the queue first and check where everyone's fuel cap is. About 80% of the time, the first 5 people in the queue will all be waiting to go to the left of the pump, while there are right-side pumps standing empty. In that case, I'll skip the queue and jump straight into a right-side pump.

This, also, seems to annoy them.

I do that in the car all the time. People do not realise that the hose is designed to reach over to the other side.

As for moving the bike, taking my lid off is more than enough IMO.

No chance of people seeing that in the in-town traffic I'm in, I'd say - and not much space to move my left either, what with the cars next to them, never mind my rearsets, etc Smile.

If I ever get around to making my own top-box, I was thinking of writing out 'ta' in LED string activated with a handle bar switch Smile.

Move out of the way occasionally. When I can be arsed or the driver looks friendly or is a fit bird.

If they start nudging forward or getting up my arse, then I'll spend a couple of minutes doing some tai-chi and general stretches before I ride off. If they ask me to hurry up I say I'm waiting for my leathers to heat up.

I have never moved out of the way but by the same token iv never rushed anyone to move either.
I was brought up to queue politely and expect the same courtesy, but since i never take my helmet or gloves of it doesnt take that long to get out of the way anyway.

I tend to do it, courtesy never cost me anything despite the amount of halfwits that tend to not acknowledge. I find that older couples and gentlemen tend to acknowledge, probably because they rode a BSA back in the day!

What with my hair growing into an afro, taking my lid off is a welcome respite!

I had a long argument with a very outraged fellow who told me that I was breaking the law and causing all sorts of potential danger by having the temerity to pull the hose over to fill up my car.

Eventually with the assistance of the petrol station attendant and a passing copper both arguing my side, he relented.

Apparently "everyone knows" it's illegal... wtf Rolling Eyes

Its not difficult to move your bike forward, I do it if its possible but dont if it puts the bike in the way of exiting cars. Sometimes someone does it for me then it saves a bit of time and congestion - why not?!

IMO those who deliberately hold people up need to stop being sad twats and get a life!

I don't move my bike until i've finished fuelling up, paid up and then got my gear on. I only move when i'm pulling away to leave the petrol station.

I don't see why i should move when no cars have ever moved for me. I take as long as i need to put my helmet and gloves back on and wont be rushed. I see plenty of car drivers get back in their car after refuelling, just sat in the drivers sear faffing around with their hair, coats, purses etc. They're the ones who need to move quick, rather than me doing all the necessary stuff to get back on the road. Plus petrol stations are dangerous places and i don't want to be giving the wrong idea by moving about when i'm not supposed to.

I was stood in the queue to pay at the cash desk on Thursday and it was taking ages. There was a line of cars forming on the forecourt because the cashiers were so slow. When i'd finally paid there was a man pulled up along side my bike, with the hose over my bike filling up his bike! When i approached the pump to get on my bike he just carried on filling up, hose still across my bike, blocking my bike in. I said 'do you mind if i just get on my bike and go please? Smile '. He looked at me but said nothing and just carried on! I waited 10 seconds before i politely told him to 'take the fucking hose off my bike and get the hell out of my way.' As i left i gave it a handful and left him a faceful of 2-stroke smoke. He wasn't amused.

It depends how busy the place is, and if there is an area to move to. I certainly don't EXPECT to be thanked, and it won't hack me off if they don't. At least I know I've been courteous, and that's what matters to me.

I do, however, get really peeed off (whether on bike or in car), when someone over takes me, then brakes and slows down...that WILL get me cross!! It's soooooo rude!!!!

Whenever I'm in the car and see a bike in my mirror I always wind my window down and wave them past and most of the time I get an acknowledgement but a couple of times I haven't and makes you wonder why you should bother doing it if they're not going to be grateful for it Rolling Eyes
