I know it's been mentioned before but i can't find it. I'm renting a flat & i doubt i'll be allowed to drill into the floor outside for a ground anchor, so what was that idea someone putting cement into a container.

How exactly do you do this again?

Cheers

Buy a big water butt , saw it in half, call the ready mix company round to fill up both halves stick the anchors in to the concrete butts deep into it as concrete is brittle sometimes. And job's a gun 'un

Though you can still move half a water but of concrete a whole one (in two bits) requires a fair bit of muscle. concrete being 250% the weight of water, you get a 200 litre water butt and thats 500 kilos ie fork lift truck territory.

Can be done cheaper with scrap plastic water containers, there are some on some waste land that hold 30 gallons.

This is the thing, no vehicle can get to where the bike will be parked, so the mixer is out of the question i think. Any way of doing it all yourself with a few bits from homebase?

Anything smaller then a water but that someone would have trouble lifting as not sure i'd even be allowed something that big.

Thanks for the help.

It'd probably cost less to mix it yourself but I use ready mix companies as I'm generally terribly lazy and don't always make it consistantly.

Access is less of a problem as they usually bring wheel barrows , but for amounts you are talking about they probably won't bother (an even cheaper way to do is it to visit building sites and see if they have any to spare for some beers).

For the size you want just consider a water container of various sizes ie a 50 litre container will filled with concrete weigh 125kilos etc..

TBH since I'm a cheaper cheapskate than I was before I'd probably go to an Indian or Chinese take away and ask them for cooking oil containers as they always have trouble getting rid of them and make them out of those , they are 20 litres so you'll need a couple of them though.

I always had trouble getting rid of them.

Cheers Itchy. This would be so much easier if they agree to let me put in an anchor. Laughing

When I built mine, I put in a tube from side to side at the bottom which I could just loop my big chain through the whole thing. It was flexible heating pipe of some sort. Then I filled it with rubble that was lying around, and other shit (like an old car battery) to save on paying for so much concrete. Find enough crap and you'll only need a few bags of sand and cement, think my whole thing including buying the butt came to about forty quid in the end.

lots of ready mix places can pump the mix in through a pipe, i.e. they can park the mixer 100 metres away.

sincerly doubt they will do this for the amount of cement we're talking,

get a drum and use a 2 part floor screed (self leveling latex compound),
its easy to mix, just mix the powder with the liquid and voila , 2 hours later you have a solid base, its what we use on the underground when laying the floor tiles
probably about £15 for this this

Have you asked about drilling a hole? If not, I find forgiveness is a lot easier to get than permission. If you can do it by a wall, go for the cheap and discreet approach (a short length of box tubing anchored to both the wall and the ground, right in the corner).

Did you find out for sure if you're not allowed to do it? A good argument would be that the alternative is a big fuck off bit of concrete with bits of metal hanging out of it Razz

Not yet although i may just do as timbstoke says & put one in right in the corner, no one would say anything & i doubt anyone would even notice.

But if you'd asked, would you have gotten permission?

Get another really cheap bike and chain it to that. You can move it to another place when/if you move, the flat owners cannot complain and it will weigh over 100kgs. If you get a non runner of the same type as your current bike, it can be a donor for parts. You can SORN the bike so no tax, insurance or MOT.
