How to protect our bikes?

Iv had my CG nicked and im buying an XR125 which im sure the little fuckers will try to nick!

Im thinking disc lock, big chain and an alarm!

whats the best way to protect or little babys??

A garage or shed.
Putting your bike inside your house.
Ground anchor.
More chains.

Keep it out of sight is the only real thing you can do , as if you keep it chained up outside and chavs can't steal it they will trash it.

Chained to something solid, ideally with an alarm that pages you or similar (but make sure you get it setup so it doesn't do it every time there's a gust of wind).

A 'rape alarm' thing placed so that say if the rear suspension is moved up or down, it goes off, might be worth considering.

I'm far from that paranoid and (said touching wood) haven't had any problems so far. Do tend to be a bit more worried with trail-looking bikes, though ironically less so my expensive KTM.

Outside your house - can you make a small shed?
A bike cover is also a good start - that way they have to look under it in the first place, which may attract some suspicion.

thats the problem there isnt space for one! the cover is a good start i think! im going to have 4 locks and 2 alarms on it

Shed doesn't have to be much wider/longer/higher than the bike, so if you've got space to walk around the bike, could probably make something up a bit more secure.
Can have it so the roof lifts up and you ride in, the bike held upright inside.

Remember when you buy your locks to get GOOD quality ones with a hardened steel bar. Your main threat is the bolt cutters which the little T**Ts carry as they are cheap as chips from most DIY shops and can cut cheap non hardened locks but will blunt on anything else.

My lock setup is
1 chain round the crash bars and front wheel
1 chain round the bike chain wheel and swingarm
1 Doberman chain through the back wheel and round the swing arm
A padlock on each brake disc





Get a cheap D lock from a peddle bike and a 25KG bag of readymix post concrete dig a hole and stick the lock in D side up and mix and pour in the concrete wait to set and you now have a cheap ground anchor for around 15 quid.

sounds like a good set up! I will NOT have another bike nicked! im going to set up a tent next to my bike or sleep on my bike haha

I really dont know what i would if i found someone trying to nick my bike!!

Im thinking about getting one of them disc locks with an alarm on them!

but at the end of the day. if someone is going to get my bike they are going to get it but im going to make it as hard as i can for them too

I'm going to suggest an alarm/immobiliser, disc lock, then a good quality chain looping over the bike and cover into a good ground anchor. If your local scrotes get it away with all that on it. They probably deserved it.

I just had my bike nicked about an hour ago. I live in a small town tho so within five minutes i had found out who had nicked it and within 20 mins i was riding it home. Really horrible when you go out to where you parked it and theres just an empty space

Going with a random selection of generic locks and chains won't really do much good, cheap chain isn't that difficult to cut and disk locks just mean the bike has to be lifted, again not much of an issue especially with a lightweight 125.

Instead I'd suggest doing it properly with a quality Almax or Pragmasis chain and matching Squire lock, as long as it's paired up with a suitable ground anchor or fixing point no opportunist chav is going to have the gear needed to cut through these grades of chain. Top it off with a decent fitting cover and your about as well of as you can be.

Multiple anchors, chains and disk locks.

Dog that barks at anything on the drive.

Neighbour who's a copper. (caught some scum bag on my drive once).

Alarm on garage linked through to house.

Digital baby monitor in garage, with receiver in the house.

Hidden electric kill switch, so there's no lights in the garage.

Long garage , so car goes behind the bikes and that has alarm/immobiliser and steering wheel lock.

Chain and lock up the rear wheel as well as the front. With just the front locked then the bike can be wheeled awayby lifting the bars.

I got a short chain a while ago which was pretty useless for locking the bike to anything but would just about loop around and through the rear wheel on the ZZR twice and lock with the padlock.

Now, with the VFR, the chain loops through the wheel, through metal pannier hanger frames and the lock is held off the floor so it can't be smashed against a hard surface. Also, the bike sits on a wooden floor so any other locks and chains can't be smashed against it as the floor won't work as an anvil.

A hole through to the concrete base underneath and a home made anchor is next to add to the locked gates, locked shed and dead end location (so no through foot-traffic walking past it), oh and the Alarm and all the other junk in the way...

As well as all the suggestions above, if you have a garage close to the house, stick a webcam in there. Run it off a dedicated cheap 'puter with some motion detection software on it, rigged to sound an alarm.

That's what I'm intending to do, except my garage is a good 50 yards from the house so I've got to figure out a way to provide constant power for my wireless webcam.

I'm genuinely surprised more people don't do this, tbh, especially with cheap computers and webcams these days.

I use a HUGE high-quality chain, hardened steel lock and an Oxford disklock on mine.

My bike doesn't have the standard switchgear and the starter switch isn't where you'd expect to find it, it also has a hidden killswitch which would help if it was ever taken.

it hasn't been touched yet. I don't think chavs like cruisers too much.
