Evil or Very Mad I guess the name should have made me stay away.

Been having trouble starting my bike ever since I got it from Budget Bikes in Shoreditch. After the first couple of weeks I took it back there, they kept it for a bit and told me it needed a new battery, and being nice guys, only charged me trade price for it. Never mind that they shouldn't really have sold me it with a crap battery in the first place...

Bought myself a trickle charger for the winter and she was still difficult but eventually started 9 times out of 10. It's just the winter, I thought.

Last week she was making the dreaded clicky sound again and barely turning over, so I take her in to my new mechanic and posted a thread here asking what the problem could be. Couldn't be the battery, no, cos that was new just a few months ago...

Just got a call from the garage - it's the battery. The bastards at Budget Bikes didn't give me a new one, they'd charged me for a shitty second hand one. I recommend not going near that place with a barge pole - don't know what the Swindon branch is like, but I don't trust the Shoreditch ones as far as I can throw 'em.

Have you actually been back to them to say this? Plus you shouldn't have paid for the battery in the first place. Get back there have a good shout, get nice and loud and make sure you go when there are other customers around... some people are such bloody pushovers no wonder some businesses take the piss! Rolling Eyes

This thread made me chuckle purely because of how many bad experiences people seem to have with BB. Was in the Swindon branch yesterday, go in there most months to check up on their stock, it's OK in there but that's as far as I would go.

Is the guy in the Shoreditch one called Terry? He used to run the Swindon one, decent guy, bit of a geezer though.

Don't worry, I intend to. Just thought I'd warn some others away first.

And what with this being my first bike, I'm not a pushover I'm just inexperienced, and there's no crime in that.

Budget bikes according to their website seem to have the same showroom as George Whites, are they the same company?

It used to be George Whites (more specifically a Honda one) but GWs have now moved to a huge premises out of town. So no, they're aren't the same company. Where is it still showing as George White's?

It was a Yamaha franchise not Honda and George Whites own site still lists the showroom as theirs, the one in E1 Hackney.

How dangerously coincidental, I was talking about the one in Swindon, not the one in London.

The Swindon GW used to be a Honda franchise but has now moved and the premises was taken over by Budget Bikes.

Just cross-wires there.

Which makes one wonder if they are one and the same company?

Tis' a fair shout actually, but I know for a fact they're aren't as I know the guy who started it up (Terry). They started it a tiny little shop with about two bikes on the other side of road to GWs. They eventually started to grow and took over the GWs premises when they moved out, think he got a good deal as he became friendly with the guys there.

He then got enough money together to start up the one in London which is where he spends most of his time, with the Swindon branch now being run by a guy called Chris. Fair play to him I say.

Knowing what I know now I would not reccommend them. I bought my first post DAS big bike off them(Swindon), my ER5. Now I know I paid over the odds AND it was not in that good nick, I spent a fair bit on it to keep it roadworthy/safe/usable.

Now I would use a dealer for the "come back" factor or private for choice/price. It just strikes me that they are not private or a dealer.

However they were great with me and it was my first bike so I still feel warm and fuzzy about it. Jusst wiser and more careful with my dosh but I passed my DAS and I wanted a bike NOW lolz.

George Whites ship off almost all of their part-ex's to Budget Bikes, I think they've got a little deal going. Like you supply the cheap bikes and we'll come to you for our spares.

Yup, GW's keep the nice low mileage bikes and whisk any higher mileage or shabbier part ex's to BB's, not the same company, just a bit of a deal going to keep GW's a premium dealer without loosing money on px.

So lets get this right.

GW's let BB's take over there premises.

BB's sell GW's less than perfect stock.

A mate of mine dropped his seized DRZ400 off to BB's (believing it was still GW's and they said nothing to change his view) in Hackney a month or so ago for it to be delivered to GW's in Swindon which they did free of charge.

Are you all sure they're not the same company, I mean REALLY REALLY 101% iron cast certain?

i've read this differntly to you.
i read it as GW moved out of the premesis, and in the process sold it to BB. and GW sell the less than perfect bikes to BB - not the other way round ...so George white has good quality bikes, and Budget Bikes has...well, budget bikes.

His way makes more sense. Yours could read as BB's sell the less than perfect stock from GW, or BB sell their less than perfect stock to GW.
