MOT horn question

I know your supposed to have a working audible horn, but is this an automatic fail? I have one, but it doesn't work.

Are all MOT places going to fail for that, or only the sticklers? Basically is there such thing as a MOT tester that lets things like that (and the can with no baffles in) slide? Or should I get it fixed?

Otherwise I doubt many MOT testers would allow vehicles to get away with defective horns...

A horn is mandatory, you will fail without it. Why wouldn't you fix it anyway? They're so cheap to buy if its nacked, but it probably just needs ajustment or rewiring which is probably a 20min job max?

Horns are FTW anyway, could save you (has done with me anyway).

Loud cans aren't tested as such (against a scale) AFAIK and are just done by the ear of the tester. However without baffles it's probably taking the piss a bit.

I think that's a bit dramatic.

The horn I had on my bandit was piss-poor. In the few times I actually used it in anger, the cars didn't even hear it.
And the one on this bike doesn't look any bigger, so I can't imagine it would be much louder. You'd be better off blipping the throttle.

Just my opinion though.

Of course it's a fail. My Gix4 failed an MOT on a defective horn. Just needed a wire securing as it turned out.

Is the horn dead or the switch?
Check the horn with a volt meter if your getting voltage to the horn head to Halfrauds and get a Stebel nautilus airhorn (£22) and a bit of wire and connectors .
