Which one would you take on my big big big trip? , in that heavy duty is supposed to be harder to repair but more resistant to sharp rocks.

But heavy duty ones cost twice as much meaning I can take twice as many std duty tubes (space permitting). And heavy duty tubes are supposed to overheat easier than std tubes.

Which one would you go for and why ? , I'm thinking heavy duty inners or would you rather bring double the number of standard tubes? I'm bringing enough patches for 18 repairs on the road.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I'd go for standard especially as you said that the heavy duty ones are harder to repair Thumbs Up

Are replacement inner tubes hard to get hold of abroad then? I'd have thought that they would be quite easily obtainable; more so than tubeless tyres etc.

Why not take a set of heavy duty tubes to fit for real rough stuff and use the normal type for less demanding terrain?

Thumbs Up

Fit heavy duties before you go, and take standards for the spares.

Define 'big trip' and the type of roads you will be using.

have you got much experience in fixing punctures in inner tubes? I used to try it a few times, it never held for long Sad

I always just replaced the tubes in the end as it was less hassle.

2 Heavy duty ones minimum then and maybe some foam to stop a puncture. But remember it will be a pig to replace with the foam in.

The problem with heavy duty or the very thick 6mm type michilen etc do is that they can heat up really badly when riding at speed on road and fail specailly in hot climates.

Right

I've decided to take 2 std inner tubes and 2 heavy duty tubes of each one.

Best of both worlds, and I've noted down the GPS tracks for tyre men in Ashtana/Almaty/Ankara and Ulan Bataar also has a Yam dealer.

Thanks

I did my first puncture repairs in tubes the other week. Two held, though one had a slight slow puncture that got a little worse - just a little bit of air coming out through a small 'tunnel' in the repair.
Bike was being used for motocross, so under a bit of 'stress'.

I'm tempted to give these a go:

About the same weight as a light weight tube, but less hassle if you do get a puncture, it seems. You can always remove it and stick a spare tube in.
