The eggs have finally hatched ...
And they are not really what I was expecting ...
They are baby snails ... 
Which is a bit weird as I only have/had one snail!! 
Who is now named Mary!! 
Now is it me or is immaculate snail conception a bit unlikely? So it really came down to two things ... she was preggers when I got her, or snails are asexual ...
So I did some research ... snails are hermaphrodites and some species are indeed asexual ... go figure .... dirty tramp has been having s3x with itself!!

often we get bcf taken over by a particularly enthusiastic poster for a while, but i think the blue_sv650 show is the best one-man-forum yet for variety and novelty etc

You have plants in your tank, yes?
That's where they have come from, they hitched a ride from your pet shop.
Clown (or other Botia sp)loaches or Rasaboras will do a good job of eating up the snails.
Copper chloride can kill them, but it may also take out your fish if you get the dose wrong.
Tempt the snails overnight into an upturned jamjar with a piece of cucumber or lettuce and then remove it in the morning.
Personally, i went with the loaches and rasaboras. Clown loaches are funny, as are skunk loaches. You will get used to their odd clicking sounds soon enough.

I do have plants, but the eggs suddenly appeared on the pump ... not the plants.
Only one snail has been introduced to the tank and that actually came in the bag with the new fish ... the tank had already been established with the plants for about a month with no snails before this point ... so the plants are not to blame ...
Its deffo the offspring of this single initial snail ...
I was pleased when I saw the first castaway snail in the bag, I thought it'd keep the tank clean, but I wouldn't get infested ... at that point I didn't realise that quite literally it would go feck itself and reproduce like mad!!
There must be about 10-15 little snails now with more eggs to hatch .... I like the idea of the jam jar with cucumber, that won't harm the fish and I can then take the snails and throw them in the local pond ... so I'll let the baby snails grow big enough to trap, then do the jam jar thing ... I'll also scrape any future eggs off the pump ...
Perhaps I should shove a needle up the adult snails foo-foo?!!?

It's incredibly common for very small snails to come in on your plants, so very common that i'm sure if you bothered to use google for yourself you would find numerous hits. It can take weeks/months to notice them as they are predominantly nocturnal until they grow larger.
You seem so reluctant to take the advice of people who have had aquariums for many years (not just myself, but others). Think about the fantails you had, you wouldn't listen to anyone then re:water quality, cycling and overcrowding, and your fish died.

Haha Fishy FAIL
My dad gets loads of baby minnows gold fish and guppys every year in his tank lets them stay in the tank till there about 1 cm then they go in the pond outside and gets munched by his carp.
There is one baby gold fish which surrived the temp change and the carp feeding and is now about 8"
If your local you can have the next lot if you want

Clown Loaches are tropical aren't they?? ... So my guess is they won't really like my cold water tank
Introducing some 'killer' fish isn't an option, I don't want to overpopulate the tank (hence why I went for the little minnows this time instead of the larger fantail) but also, I don't want to kill the snails ...
Happy to trap them and ditch them in the local pond though!!
The hatching/hatched babies really are tiny at the mo ... no larger than a grain of sugar!! ... quite cool actually ... I'd have preferred some little fish mind!!
I've read up on how to breed minnows and you need some bushy plants ... the ones I have are more like daffodils (if you take off the flower and just look at the leaves) so I wont be a minnow daddy any time soon
