yeh include tax/insurance/mot/general wear and tear and the difference isnt so huge anymore

I have done around about 250 miles on a ybr 125 (given by my insurance company) and it has only cost about 20 quid all in. still quarter tank left which is about 2.50 aswell lol.

So much mroe economical than my RS125. I havent had my RS125 for about 2 months now and miss it loads.

Let me see...

I do 300 miles a week now, usually fill up twice a week, at about £7.50 a fill so that's £15 a week for fuel.

MOT was £25, insurance was about £90 and tax was £15.

The bike is serviced every 3 months (4000 miles) and costs around £120 a time.

So those costs equate to £1390 per year or around £116 per month.

Factor in another £30 or so per month for stuff like various oils/lubes, cleaning stuff, replacement gear for me etc and that means I budget a grand total of £150 per month on the bike.

A monthly season ticket for the train is £288 a month, and that doesn't take into account the fares I'd spend on the tube/DLR once I get into London (about £50 a month extra). That means I'm looking at £340 a month (£4080 a year) out of my pocket if I were to take the smelly, unreliable, overcrowded trains.

So to summarise - I would be paying double what I pay now to commute to work via public transport. No thanks.

Problem with the above is you haven't factored in the cost of purchasing the bike, which at 16000 miles p/a is probably not going to last more than 4 or 5 years without major work. Granted even then it's probably still cheaper and more pleasant than using public transport.
