Just wondering if theres anyone on here thats got the qual? Got any words of wisdom or experience you want to share? Wish you did something different like?

was wondering how easy it is to get a job, what demand is like, im guessing there about the same.

Although I have no experience of being either (though I do actually completely illegally dabble in fixing house hold electrics) , I would probably look into being a sparky more than a plumber.

Less chance of encountering turds and wash basin traps like Luke's where you undo it and its full of baby batter.

plumber means you have to put your hand down peoples shit filled toilets when there blocked electrician is alot more cleaner and more light weight work. Plus once you have the basics sorted and a bit of experience your pretty much sorted for house wiring

There's a shed load of exams for being a sparky, lots of legislation and testing. I've got one qualification in electrical work as a small part of my job, and got to see just how much training is needed.

Plumbing is one to watch carefully, with the use of speedfit and the like its slowly being de-skilled, how much impact this will have on plumbing as a trade is yet to be seen

And if doing refurb jobs there's the old hidden killer - asbestos

Both trades will be good for earning a few bob on the side

My best mate is a plumber and the money seems ok but there are various different levels and you need different qualifications for all of them.

Ever thought of carpentry? My bro is 19 and on 28k plus weekends and privet work!

i'd say it will be diffu=icult to find any job in the building trade at the moment, i'm a plumber and alough at times you can earn good money i wouldn't recomend it, bad back,knees risk of asbestos and been constantly covered in shit to start with, then the hours can be shite (because everyone wants you when they get home from work at night)
I'd say find a builder/plumber/sparks and see if you like it, it's not for everyone but you might get on well (i think i'd go mad if i was in a office/factory all day)
