should i buy vfr 800 v tech?for 2k?

hi quite a random one but my triumph tt600 has its service coming up and needs new tires chain sprocket so worked out about 700 quid!my boss offered me his 02 vfr 800 v tech 18k miles data tool alarm top box 12month tax new tires last month for 2k?he wants new car so wants rid?is that a good price for one and anyone with experience of them?i fancyed somethin sporty but this sounds like good deal opinions on a post card please!cheers steve

If it's done 18k miles, make sure that the valve clearances were done at 16k miles. This job is made quadruply difficult, due to the fact that it's a V4, so there are two heads and also the VTEC system has to be pressurised in order to check the VTEC operated valves, so that will be 4 times the work. Apparently, Honda were charging upwards of £500 to do the job as it is so time consuming.

Other than that, expect a fairly bland bike that will do everything fairly well and nothing spectacularly well.

Dad has one and it's spot on with the Honda luggage.

Looks sporty, comfy, loads of luggage space, ideal tourer imo.

my mate rides one and it is great for town and country, toured Scotland with ease, scratches around roads no problem, a good all round bike.

the vfr 800 is a great all round bike, my mate has one and its more than capable of riding like a sports bike ive seen him scraping pegs round the twistys in the alps and i was on a blade and the vfr was just as good and as much fun, the only down side i hear people say is its underpowered 2 up and with luggage

Don't get me wrong, it sounds a fair deal. But I'm not a fan of Vtec on V4 engines.

New tyres chain and sprockets could be done for around £250 (presuming new tyres, I'd go second hand ), but don't let that put you off finding an excuse to get a new bike .

2k`s a steal for a V-tec my mates just traded his VFR 750 in and the dealer has it marked up at £1695 and its an 1989 bike

hi the 700 is for service too with valve check etc etc yeah its kind of a good excuse to change bikes and i know him he only put 1500 on in two years i should sell my tt600 for 1700 at least i think so its not costin a fortune and should be easy enough to sell on for easy 2k!who knows i may even like it i have slowed down since becomin a dad and i want to do some tourin on bike this summer seemed like a plan!still fancy pipes and power commander anyone done that?will it make bike bit more fun?

As I said, use the valve clearance service to knock a load of money off if it's not been done. There are a large number of VFR800 VTECs for sale with around 15k on the clocks because that service is so damn expensive. Unlike most Hondas, which don't need adjustment at 16k, the VTEC system means that the valves often need adjustment at 16k.
