do you slow down when you approach a speed camera thats facing you? If you do, then why, they don't swivel to photograph your plate when you've gone past, what threat is there?

LOL! so true, if they are facing you, they can't do anything, I hate it when i'm following someone and they slam the anchors on...!

Thats on a par with a land rover slowing down to 5mph to go over speed humps!

No I slow down, if everyone speeds through them on bikes then they're going to take the hint and put a rear facing one there instead!!!

And some camera have been known to be forward facing but with a camera also in the back AFAIK.

lol, i was bored on the M1 when there was road works and temp cameras and i was letting the front wheel rest or trying to do amusing poses. Dont think they even flashed

Any way long story short 100 meters up the road there was a bridge with coper and radar gun nothing happened though i did spot him a while before so hoped he didn't notice lol

I've gone through quite a few and had them flash me!

I've always had a nagging feeling when going back past the same camera later on in the day on my way home that if a vehicle coming the other way also set the camera off they could look at the film and see both sets of photo's.

Thus the picture of the rear of my bike when I was travelling under the posted speed limit would give them my details and they could use this with the picture of me travelling towards the camera over the speed limit!

What I'm trying to say is I always slow down for speed, sorry safety cameras irrelevant whether they are pointing at me or not.

You can set off Gatso's when filtering - there is no chance of the camera getting your number as the cars obscure your plate. I do generally slow down when approaching them.

The other day some monkey following me didn't and zoomed past me missing me by 2cms. I was doing 50mph and he has doing nearer 75. It would have definitely triggered the camera and they would have seen the guy almost kill me. (He was also undertaking as we were in the middle lane).

If there was film in that camera they will definitely do him as they will see how close he was to me!

Agree with Luke.

There's no pint in us taking the pi$$ just because they can't catch us due to technical limitations. That suggests you think the laws don't apply to you and as Luke says it's just more ammo to anti-bike people if they it.

I always speed up ,me and my mates are always fighting to set them off first. Childish i know but as they say simple things pleases simple minds . They never go off half the time anyway.

A possible solution to the Gatso problem AND motorcycle tyre recycling:

1). Hang a worn out motorcycle tyre around a local Gatso.
2). Fill the tyre (as much as possible) with petroleum or other flammable liquid.
3). Ignite flammable liquid and run away.

This method recovers some of the value from the tyre as heat, and the heat is used to defrost the camera (most Gatso's don't come with a defrosting unit, so this will be a welcome service to the local constabulary).

Speaking of ghatos anyone using the M6 between J13-J19 watch out they have installed them in the new Matrix signs the speed is set at 78 mph and is measured over the distance between two signs.

So you wont know till the ticket hits the floor....

I heard a story bout a CBR rider that gave this particular camera at the same time (commuting) going WELL over the speed limit and giving it the bird every time. The police got so vexed by having a daily pic of this so actually sent out one of those speeding vans with the little flaps and cameras at the top to catch him.

They do notice even if you haven't got fined.

And its only a stretch of about 50m you need to break for then you've got all the fun of accelerating to top speed again .
