Saturday morning and Ive been watching kids cartoons. WTF has happened??? they are all utter shite, mainly japanese style and plain boring!

What happened to stuff like Rocko's modern life, ren and stimpy? Christ even Trap door and the old warner brothers cartoons were better than this toss!!

The only saving grace is Sponge bob square pants, surreal and funny!

I totally agree that kids cartoons have become absolute tripe and certainly arent anywhere near as good as the classics like jayce and the wheeled warriors or ulysses 31.

I do think the quality of adult cartoons has really come on leaps and bounds however, American dad, Family guy and king of the hill are both satirical and rib achingly funny

I have said the same! Rockos modern life was great and ren and stimpy and they are not on any of the kids channels now. I recently got the childrens channels in for my son as he likes the colours on the babay channel and there is not much on. Sometimes on nick classic which is on at night the older ones are there but no ren and stimpy or rocko. Sponge bob is good and I am watching Tom & Jerry at the mo on boomerang.

How is postman pat racist? Shocked ffs what can postman pat do wrong?

I hate the way also that new cartoons now look like xbox characters.

Jakers is just weird, we where channel hoping once and flicked past it when someone on it said "he is going to come in my big dark hole" Shocked then they got stoned on mushroom soup. Confused

Ren and Stimpy was a steaming pile of donkey manure.

That small fact dealt with, the main difference now is that it seems that kids programming these days is split between "edutainment" consisting of trying to feed the little darlings with ever smaller amounts of education in the guise of keeping them amused, and advertising masquerading as cartoons and suchlike. There don't seem to be many cartoons or series these days without a line of action figures and merchandise.

I used to love Swat Kats, The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Transformers, Thundercats, Battletech, The Bots Master, Oscars Orchestra, and of course the 100% essential and never beaten:

Tom and Jerry. Of course, Tom and Jerry is totally banned nowadays for being 'violent'. I ask you ! Rolling Eyes

Looney tunes and merry melodies couldn't hold a candle to the daddies of all cartoon world, Tom and Jerry.

Tom, and Jerry, I salute you.

https://www.devilgraphics.com/tom-and-jerry/Cartoon_Tom%20and%20Jerry_015.jpg

(until of course you were made a bit crap by Chuck Jones... Rolling Eyes )

It's a generation thing. I saw things like Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Thundercats, He Man and thought "What's this crap? Where's Tom and Jerry, The Banana Splits, Scooby Doo?.

No doubt someone will be bemoaning the loss of whatever it is they're growing up with at the moment.

Right, an analysis of 'good' and 'bad' tom and Jerry.

Here is a good example of a good chuck Jones Tom and Jerry. Most of the chuck Jones ones were really poor though with the extra cute Jerry and the weedy Tom.

Tom-ic energy

Here's a good example of a 'good' Hanna Barbera Tom and Jerry:

Trap Happy

This one is great with the "Help, help! A mouse eeeeee come quick!" bit! Laughing

Here's another great one:

Million Dollar Cat

and this one:

Cue Ball Cat

There's so many I'm trying to remember all the good ones I used to watch as a kid. Ahh great days! And you can't say its just because I grew up with them as most of them were made in the 1940s!!

The Cat Concerto

Polka dot puss One of my favourites!! Smile

Tom and Jerry at the Hollywood Bowl

The Flying Cat
