Last resort to post here .

My lap top is slow, and not even typing at the speed I am Confused This started when I deleted loads of photo files after stroing them on a memory stick as I was near out of memory. Only got 1gb of memory on this, my phone has more memory. I am sick of it not responding messages both on the internet and the computer. I took more files off yesterday and then restored it and it worked ok last night an its slow again now.

I have all up dates one, i dont have that many programs. Maybe I didnt restore it far back enough? And if I do restore it back to about a month will I have to get all my updates again?

I am going to flip If I see a*not responding* message again! Evil or Very Mad

Try defragging your hard drive, if you don't do this every so often the computer gradually gets slower and slower.

Go to My Computer

Right click C: and click properties

Click the Tools tab along the top

Click Defragment now

Click Analyse, let it do that and it will tell you if you need to defragment. Defragmenting can take a few hours and works better if you're not using other programs at the same time.

Have you scanned for spyware and viruses?

More work re-installing all the extra programs than getting rid of it using programs, there isn't a virus out in the wild at the moment that can't be removed with a decent program.

dragonfly, what A/V program are you running? May be worth switching to another if it's letting stuff through.

I am using Avira, is that any goood? I rather pay for something that was good than have a crap anti virus.

Never heard of it so it's probably shite - download avast (www.avast.com) - it's free and one of the best av's out there.

If you just do typical desktop stuff (like web browsing, email, listening to music, chat, watching videos etc) it might be worth giving this a try if you're getting fed up with Windows and all the heartache it brings. Thumbs Up

Avira, rates higher than Avast on most tests so would stay with it rather than downgrading. Wink

Most anti-virus programs wont that's what things like spyware S&D, AdAware and Malwarebytes are for.

Avira will stop viruses, that's why you should run weekly scans with the others.

My GFs laptop was fucked with spyware and viruses, she had downloaded most of the above mentioned programs to try and get rid of them!

You could spend hours downloading and scanning the simplest thing to do is just format and re-install your OS. You just need a bit of know how with regards to drivers and backup your documents which takes seconds on a removable drive. For a full format and re-install you only need to be at your computer for about 30minutes and it's 100% guaranteed to clear it up.

If you really don't wanna do that then 'HijackThis' is an awesome removal tool!
