Ok, I hate codecs. As in video and audio codecs.

I can't be arsed to do a fresh install of xp at the moment as its not long since I built this computer.
I always mess up codecs, because I install ffdshow or whatever and then it won't play something and its just a pain.

Now I can open some files in some players and others in others.

Is there some sort of intelligent program that sorts out codecs. I use lots of players and file types. I just want to be able to watch whatever I need to.

Cheers Karma

Can't you just use VLC to play videos?

Yes, I can but for music I like to use Winamp Pro which I have sorted.

VLC is very good at playing almost all video formats, but that's not what I am looking for. I am looking for a separate program that organises codecs intelligently.

Thanks

Yes, there is! Salvation is here.

One of the most popular codec packs is the K-lite codec pack. When I'm fixing family and friends computers, it's one of the essential installs. I also add Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative. They contain the necessary codecs without the system tray hogging installs of the 'proper' vendors.

Go here: https://free-codecs.com/
...and find the link down the side.

The install quick and completely customizable. There are no hidden elements, and nothing to worry about. It's regularly updated too.

Let me know how you get on mate.

I have already got that, I have most codecs under the sun due to random video and audio formats I use.

Just with so many, it messes things up and stuff starts to not play.

Cheers anyway

So uninstall all of the 'random' ones and install a few decent codecs?
