How do I get my downpipes shiny? Cool Laughing

Can it be done to all downpipes, namely my CBR? reason I ask is because I have a new end can coming so it would be nice to have the whole thing looking clean Cool Thumbs Up

Wire brush to get any rust off.

If its just dull, wire wool and autosol works wonders. Then a rag to polish with a little more autosol.

if they are stock, they are mild steel so they will rust straight away if you polish them.i would get stainless ones or spray them black with heatshield paint.

Bollocks. Yes they will rust again, but not straight away. Especially since we're heading to summer.

I did on my Hornet. Spent a couple of hours with wire wool, autosol. Working rough to mid to fine and they came up brilliantly. And loads of elbow grease. But you only have 1 to polish!

My down pipes are stainless steel, they are not rusty but certainy not silver and shiney.

It is almost like they are stained.

What is best method to get these looking silvery again?

Yeah and because one rain session will completely and utterly rust your pipes Brick Wall

The hard part is the first time. After that is keeping on top which is easy. I didn't bother through winter because of all the salt. But summer time? They were shiny throughout with very very little work.

I have exhaust cleaner - some HG stuff - but never used. Works really well on S/steel pipes so I hear.
I had no trouble with Autosole/Wire wool - brought it up a treat.
But if its that bad try - 'Optiglanz' intensive cleaning agent for all exhaust systems made of stainless steel Thumbs Up

Brillo pad and Autosol

Dont use Autosol often though as its very abrasive, use just the once and use some other non abrasive polish to maintain the shineyness!

Molotov's right. One going over with some wire wool and autosol is enough to keep 'em looking shiny for months.

I did mine on the Hornet, took me hours with very fine wet and dry, then autosol
Looked really good.

But as soon as it got hot again they started to discolour. They are back to normal now. Sad
