Has anyone owned/ridden one?

Really like the look of it and would love one as a second bike, sure they are fairly basic, and a bit slow compared with most modern bikes. From what I have heard it's the sort of bike to be ridden to meet friends for dinner, cruise with your buddies, or ride to work.

Friend of a friend has one.

He lives in London, and likes posing.

The bike suits him.

I must be a poser, because if I had the cash I would buy it on looks alone!

Sounds more like a tampon commercial to me.

I love the Scrambler, they're without a doubt one of the nicest looking bikes on sale today. Shame they've changed the colour schemes so the new ones are all rather drab.

I think they look fantastic, they're one of the few modern (well you know what I mean) bikes around that have any character whatsoever. Someone posted a great pic of one in mid-air, with knobblies fitted, on ADV Rider a while back - poster material, easily. Drooling

Far to heavy to use in the mud but they have pose value.

I gather it is pretty useless in anything but light gravel. If I had the cash I would love one for taking the Mrs out on, and then a 10R for blasts! But I don't, so I guess if she wants to come out it's gonna be a 10r with a plastic bag or nothing!

Does sound great in this clip.

Not had the chance for a ride, but have sat on one and it's very low and comfy with no stretching at all. I'm 5'11
Saw one pull out of the C&F carpark and it sounded fantastic
I'd like 1 for some B-road bimbling.
Pricey and poor colours tho.

One of the Fiennes boys had one but replaced it as he said it was fine around town but he liked touring and it was useless for that.

I had a go on one about a year ago while my bike was in for service, I posted my thoughts on here.....

-->
Well, dropped the TT off this morning and was given a scrambler 900 as a courtesy bike with 2 miles on the clock oooooh the responsibility!

Anyway I did promise I wouldn't rag it as it needed running in!

First impressions:

- very upright riding position, read humping the tank, which i guess is scrambler style.

- the aircooled twin sound great and is really tourquey but not really my thing, bit too lumpy

- The high level pipes are an experience, even though I was concious of where the heat shield is to save my legs I could still feel the heat through my leathers and had a bit of a "one slip and this is going to hurt!" moment.

- It's reasonably comfortable, however I did develop a bit of cramp in my thigh after 25 or so miles.

- Looks wise..... it's a classic design and I rode to work through Oxford City centre and got a huge amount of attention.

In summary, not my thing, but if you like the classic style, this sounds well and looks great, but be ready for a burnt leg!

I own one and they are great! Really nice handling around town and the twisties. I wouldn't want too go far off road on her mind you. It is a fantastic show off bike. Everywhere you stop people come up and talk to you about it. They'll hear you coming from miles off too if you have the Triumph Sports exhausts fitted like I have. It's a generally great bike for bimbling around on and I plan on keeping it for years. The only downside is the immense amount of polishing required to keep it looking good Wink

I have never burned my leg on the pipes and I wear jeans on it (Kevlar jobbies obviously). My wife wears leathers and she said her legs are fine on it as a pillion too so no worries there.

Check out my exhaust clips here:

That sounds so good. I really want to take one for a test ride now, but I can't see that being a good idea.

Cheers chaps. She does sound great eh? Unfortunately with the standard exhausts on they sound like a sewing machine so you really have to get the "Off road use only" pipes Wink

Not much more than the litre KTMs and a lot less than the big beemers, but yes, wouldn't be my choice.
However, pose value would be much increased if it was covered in mud Wink.

Beautiful bike love it, I would. That or the Enfield version.

As for them being a posers bike? Can't see it being anymore so than a 180mph Superbike and there is plenty of them on the roads...

Because for your money you actually get a better performing bike and perhaps more importantly, a bike that's generally easier to ride than the year before's 175mph sports bike?

This doesn't seem to offer anything over a £1k SV650, apart from the looks - infact it's probably 'worse' in most ways, best to get that SV and add some weights around it, then restrict it a bit.

Not saying it wouldn't be a fun bike to ride in some situations, but you can 'get' a lot more for your money.

I really like Scramblers, although I have an inner conflict over the whole looks/cool thing. Its marketted with the Steve McQueen connection, and no one is cooler than the cooler king, but if he were alive today I cant help think he'd be riding something like a ZX10R!

Think I'd like to own one as a 2nd bike, for bimbling around the dales on in the sunshine, but perhaps I'm being unfair, as its not a million miles away from the bike that Ted Simon managed to go around the world on (in fact its undoubtably more capeable).

I prefer this years more seventies looking Bonnie:

Somehow thats cooler than the T120 and the Thruxton...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Ah But G, it I wanted a bike with no character that I could go everywhere on in first gear I'd buy a Scooter! Twisted Evil

Of course there are infinitely better performing bikes out there, both speed and handling wise, but that's missing the point with the retro range of bikes. They are bought by people who don't want to go everywhere at 150mph with their knee down. People buy them because they do look cool and have a bit of character and soul rather than strapping a plastic crotch rocket in between their legs that looks pretty much like every other modern sports bike out there. Not that i'm knocking them as each to their own I say. Performance and handling don't do it for me and a lot of other people, but then loads of other people do like that sort of thing and good for them.

You're right, I could have spent less than a grand on something like a Yamaha XT350 and had a bike that really will go scrambling, will be lighter and have similar performance but then it wouldn't make me feel so special when I rode it and it wouldn't make people want to come and talk to me about it. There is always a cheaper and better alternative if you want to compromise I guess.....otherwise why would people buy Harleys Wink

Yeah it probably had the standard exhausts on. They're crap! The Scramblers sports pipes also sound much louder than the Bonnie's sports pipes. I think it's to do with the 270 degree firing order or something.
