Canal boat holiday

This summer I want to get a group of my mates together to go on a canal boat holiday for a week.

Someone must know about these, I need advice.

The routes to take, prices etc etc.

The plan is to hoist up the jolly roger and dress like pirates, maybe adbuse the locals in a drive by abuser style but on a boat Laughing

I want to go through london and we all live east london/essex.

Also where can I buy a massive pirate hat.

Many places won't hire out boats to single sex groups for precisely the reasons you list.

Navigating the thames on a narrowboat is not to be taken lightly for a start you'll need boat handling experiance and a VHF radio with the appropriate licence the big pleasure cruisers will want to know you intentions and as the Thames has it's own radio channel you'll need to be able to filter relevant transmissions from the daily chaos.
With regards to hiring a boat as said previously you'll find it difficult if your a same sex group, the waterways are a nice place to be because of the lack of lager lout culture.

Best thing I can suggest is to charter a boat on the Thames with an experianced skipper and bar on board! Then you can drink as much as you like without putting yourself or others in danger.

Try a google search for companies.....

Just get ready for the shock, when you see the prices.

You might find that the Broards are the best place, rather than canals.
Even then in say June. You are looking at nearly 1K.....

my dad goes on these alot in norfolk , he usually goes with 6 adults and six kids, he says theres loads of room and its great fun,

to top it off they usually pay for it with tesco clubcard points!

Or why don't you take a flight out to south east Asia , hire a boat for next to nothing , load it with beers and cruise round the areas as seen in Top Gear with the vietnam bike challenge thing.

Should work out cheaper I reckon.

I work at a canal boat yard, Engineering and cabin painting.
You will love going on a jolly on a boat trust me, its a good laugh mate.
We charge 99 pound for the day, which is cheap !

Last week we had 4 FIT AS FUCK girls go out and the came back with the 3 windows smashed and flashing me and all the lads, it was awsome.
Azonicben is getting a little seriouse man !, just go have fun!

They have a tiller, forwaard and reverse lol, if you can ride a bike you can drive a canal boat Thumbs Up

Week long hire is like 300 pound, you also have to add coal ( it does get cold in a metal shell in freezing water even though the weather is perking up)
Gas ( 1x13kg will last plenty for a week with sensable use)
Diesel ( allthough most boat yards should keep the hire boats brimmed)

Your looking at like 50 pounds on top of that mate ... ish.

Or live like a proper boater like i did and burn near by wood and dont have hot food Cool

And piss over board, save money on a pump out ( i leave it to you to figure out what they are Thumbs Up

On a tangent somewhat - near me the marina at Apsley (on the GUC) lists 'Elsan' as one of the services it offers (mooring, pump-outs etc).
It's always intrigued me as to what it actually is, any ideas?
